Suggestions for cleaning Bone handle

Today I received my bone handled Chesapeake Bay Knife Club khukuri. What do the experts recommend to properly clean the bone handle without causing any damage to it or other parts of this khukuri?

Thanks for your replies.

Update: Looking back over old email, I relize that the handle is Spotted Deer Horn, not bone. Sorry for the confusion.

Harry that could be a tough question even with it being the deer horn.
I usually use a paste wax like Johnsons on any stag I have, although a good neutral shoe polish works as well.
Perhaps a good quality saddle soap would clean it without to much discoloration.
Most of all these products have a tendency to change the color a bit, usually darkens the material.
It's kinda like a nice piece of ivory with the patina of age on it. I don't object to the change.YMMV.

The hardy adventurer just drank from a stream he thought was pure glacier fed water not knowing that upstream was being used by a herd of yaks as a giant bidet.

I said he was hardy, not smart.:-)

Khukuri FAQ

Harry, believe it or not, automotive paste wax works well because most car waxes contain non-abrasive cleaners and leave a very durable protective finish. And the waxes come in different colors, so finding a suitable color isn't difficult. And, for obvious reasons, you would definitely want a light-colored wax to use on a light-colored surface if the surface is pourous.

Thanks, guys. I'll probably give it a try in the next week or two and report back on results.

I think he's trying to put out the fire. He just ran out the door gasping " Water, WATER!"

Bujhyo = I understand.

Unless, Uncle Bill, I didn't get the right context.
