i really like the look of the kershaw ken onion boa, but am not fond of any sort of "assisted opening" stuff...is there a production folder out there that looks similar - particularly the recurve blade - of good quality?

thanks...

I think the assisted openning gimmic is silly. I tried one of those knives in a local knife shop and I almost cut my thumb trying to open the damn thing. It opens too fast for your thumb to follow.

The Steven Seagal folder is an Onion design that does not have assited opening. It also has a small flipper under the blade. The only down side is that the blade is AUS-8 instead of 440V.

TKD,

I don't think you're supposed to "follow" the blade open with your thumb if you use the thumbstuds. Just push it out and stop where the speedsafe takes over and opens it the rest of the way for ya.

That, or use the flipper.:D

You can slide your thumbnail behind the thumbstud and just push up, it works on the Leek to.

You just push it to a certain point and let go. If you try to follow it you will get cut. I like assisted openers but my main problem with stuff like the speedsafe is that the spring will eventually break and once that happens the knife will have no detent. But then it's kind of like when the spring breaks on an auto.

as a matter of fact, the spring on my chive snapped yesterday. and i've already got a replacement on the way from kershaw. thats some good customer service they have.
