My birthday is on July 4th (yeah yeah)

For my b-day i usually don't recieve presents from my familly, but i recieve some money and I buy myself my presents.
So, as it's gonna be my 19th birthday (and also the end of my exams) i thought it would be a good idea to have a good knife, something that would last, that would be tough and hard to stay with me for a little while.
So, if i choose a folder, maybe a Police, a Military or (why not?) a Civilian (really like its design, just for my collection or country house)
If i choose a fixed blade, why not a Sog Seal (nice looking) or huh...i don't anything in fixed blade...

Well, any ideas or advice?

I see your tastes lean towards larger knives. If you ever decide to go small, there are some nice choices like the Spyderco Meerkat, Mouse and Salsa; the Al Mar SLB; and Chris Reeves Umfaan and Mnandi. All of these knives have blades well under 3" but they can handle every day tasks with ease.

If you want a study as hell knife with the fit and finish rivalish custom check out the Al Mar SERE 2000. Strong liner lock folder. Tough as nails. Smooth as silk. It can do anything you throw at it that a folder can be expected to do along with some things you would normally expect a fixed to do. It has a low ride pocket clip so it carries easily pretty many places. The steel is VG-10 and it has a great edge. If you want fixed check out the SERE operator. I have not handled one yet, but based on the S2K it has to be good! Have fun with your choice.

Since I got my Spyderco Military PE about a week ago, it has become my primary EDC at work or at play. The plainedge blade just makes this knife an awesome cutting tool. What else can I say? Great ergonomics, G-10 handles, CPM440V steel, and it seems to just disappear in your pocket.

I highly recommend the Military, or any other Spyderco knife, you won't be disappointed.;)
