Hey guys I'm currently working with a 1x40 inch and was wanting to know which belt grinders I could possibly get that came with a disc grinder for making finger grooves On my knives.
thanks Jacobs

Disc grinders are for flat grinding. A small wheel attachment arm is what is used for finger grooves. Most standard knife grinders have that option ( KMG, Bader, TW-90, etc.).

I agree with the disk statement for sure. You'd be better off with small wheel attachment "OR" go to Lowes and Home Depot with $120 bucks in your pocket.
Look for the Gator brand 1" drill sanding drums (about 10 bucks).

Then head to Home Depot and pick up the Rigid handheld router (about 110 bucks).

The drums will fit in the collet of the router, and the router can be turned down for speed (but will still be WAY over the rated speed of the drums). That being said it may be a little dangerous, but haven't had any issues with this other than catching clothes on fire :P.

Use the 1x42(?) to profile handles and blade assembled to get rough profile going. Then, take handles off, use plate of the router to hold blade perpendicular to the drum, then finish shaping the finger groove to your liking.

One thing, to match the handles to the profile of the blade, I've found that the WorkSharp sharpening tool works great to remove the scales material without impacting the steel too much.

Hope that helps.
