I am looking for a small fixed blade to wear in front(horizontal or canted) of my gun. I looked at the clinch pik buy would prefer a straight blade to use in hammerfist grip in right hand. Also looked at tdi line but again want a straight blade. Any suggestions? I am new to forum and would appreciate any ideas.
Well, if you are looking for a knife to wear appendix carry, in addition to a gun...
Then, I will assume for the purpose of the question, that you want a knife for self-defense.
1. I know you did not ask, but I believe you should wear this knife on the opposite side of your gun, that way, you can use it for weapon retention, and self-defense if your gun side is immobilized or disabled. And if you wear it forward grip on your off-side in the appendix position, you can always cross-draw from your dominant side.
2. The sheath may have to be purchased separately, to get the dialed-in performance that this application demands. Mike Sastre of River City Sheaths (
http://www.rivercitysheaths.com/ ) is a strong choice for just such a professional sheath.
3. If you have not trained for off-side knife use, I would suggest you do so, before you sink money into a knife and carry system.
Strong choices in a knife, could be...
Blackhawk Crucible FX (
http://www.blackhawk.com/product/Crucible-FX2,1446,35.htm ), designed by Kelly McCann, aka Jim Grover, about as serious a guy as you can look for in these matters.
Spyderco Street Beat (
http://spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=263 ), designed by Fred Perrin, a very serious guy in these matters.
Al Polkowski Kasper Companion (
http://www.polkowskiknives.com/docs/personaldefenseknives.htm ), designed by Bob Kaspar, a very serious guy, now dead, and while living, an associate of Kelly McCann.
My first three suggestions are based on the designers, serious guys who designed knives to do the very thing you are looking at....
But, that does not mean that those are the only options available to you. A good custom knife maker can design a knife that will accomplish the same things.
Better to be Lucky, than Good.
