Ughh, what a horrible scan, however you can see the profile well enough (don't worry the grind lines need finishing also). This is the first knife I ever forged over a year ago. It's just been sitting on my work bench. This past Sunday, while I was letting the puukko knife blade I forged anneal in a can of vermiculite, I picked it up to tweak its profile and begin grinding the bevels. The bevels still need work and the tang needs to be tapered a little more but I'm beginning to like the profile though it seems a little odd to me. So my question is, guard or no guard? My first thoughts were for a brass guard with cocobolo scales and brass pins and brass thong tube. What do you think, is this knife asking for a guard?

You know Guy, I really hate brass except in spacers.:footinmou That blade has a lot going for it and the flashy brass would only take away from the clean lines (IMHO) Bronze might be nice and one of my favorites is browned steel. Certain knives are like really pretty girls. The more glitz you put on them the more they look like a Bimbo!

Sharpen it, give it a sheath and then use it or sell it. I like it just like that!

Guy I think a guard would just interrupt its lines. Bolsters might be cool. I'd vote for stainless for all fittings, but would do that on any knife. :D

I vote for Bolsters and scales..
But you are the artist and need to do what is in your head. What ever you choose and what ever stylye you choose has to please you so suprise use with pictures of it finished..;)
Just my 2 cents worth.

Nice lines. Plenty of belly. My suggestions. No guard. No bolsters. Pick some utilitarian slabs, sharpen her, and send it right over:D

Well I think I've got some good ideas now! It's funny but seeing it as a picture on the forum has put it in a totally different light. Thanks everyone, I will definiely finish this one soon. since it is 5160 it is slated to get the triple normaliz-triple quench-triple temper sequence. It should work out to be a good user I hope.

Great lines, would not break it up with a guard. just scales and bolsters, or scales alone. Like BE said what ever is in you head as the creator will likely work just fine. Nice knife. You might consider just flanging the front of the scale material to create a recess before the blade. Terry
