Well, I'm being lazy today, will do a Search here later but also wanted my own thread with recommendations for a 22 Rifle with my own criteria;

Target 80% / Hunting 20%
Bolt Action
Wood Stock
Scope Acceptable (or if I buy used it may come with a Scope)
Price Range $250 - $375

What other characteristics would be important? (maybe Barrell Length, Weight or ability to accept all types of 22LR ammo)?

Any suggestions, questions, etc welcome.

well i have a remington fieldmaster. it is a slide action. not sure what they are going for but it is a great gun.

The CZ's are great rifles for the money. Ruger 77/22's can be had cheap occasionally.

Be sure to read up on rimfire central. There's a ton of info on that site.

CZ's all the way. They make several different models but the main thing is they are known for their accuracy and build quality. Solid steel parts throughout. Very reasonable prices.
Like Sid said they have a forum on rimfirecentral.com, the bladeforums for .22's.

Take a look also at the Remington Model 5 which is imported from Yugolasvia I believe and is also excellent and solid steel throughout, no plastic or pot metal parts. I have the same rifle previously imported before Remington came out with their Model 5 by Charles Daly and it is also a tack driver with many different kinds of 22 cheap ammo.

If you are looking for a .22 that will put them in the same hole,give Savage a look.I have a couple and am very happy.That accu-trigger is really cool.

Save your money and go buy this;

should think of every firearm purchase as potential heirloom ..most good guns will outlive their original owners. Just gave my son a 21yr old Colt AR15 HBAR that will probably go to one of his sons.. I like that.

I have the CZ 452 Varmint in .17 HMR w/Brooks trigger kit[ about $9 at the time] and great shooting rifle with beautiful wood. If you can find a local stocking dealer worth taking a look..usually good deals at Whittakers in Owensboro.

Lot of good used .22's but remember to shoot a lot of different brands of ammunition as some does better than others in any given rifle and you'll have to find out for yourself.

Good luck with your new rifle.

I say go find a nice used 580 series Remington. Should be able to find one under $200. Pretty nice guns IMO.

Take a look at the CZ 452.

Best shooting .22 boltie I have ever used.
Will knock the eyebrows off flies on the wing. Well made, solid, outstanding value for money, easy maintenance.
Put some quality glass on top and you will have a superb rifle that will outlive you and still be going strong in a 100 years when your great grandchildren will be shooting eyebrows off flies. :)

There's some fine old Marlin bolt actions on the market too. I like the type with the seven round bottom insert mags, which are readily available. A big advantage of a bolt action is the ability to shoot shorts, longs, or long rifles with zero problems. BTW, I just bought one of the these in like new condition for $150.

Ruger 77/22's in 22 WM's with the Zytel stocks are cheap right now. I just bought two :), one to stay as a 22WM and the other to be converted to 17HMR and 22LR with a barrel swap and trigger guard for the 22LR.

I have the CZ 452 and it is an awesome rifle for the money, my dad also has one and my brother is looking to get one also.

Savage makes one of the most accurate firearms right out of the box. And, they have some heavier barreled target models as well.

Another big +1 for the CZ452- shoulders and points naturally (YMMV but the consensus seems to be in favor), good sights, one of, if not the most accurate rifle I have (definitely the easiest to be accurate with) and amazingly nice wood for this price range. I couldn't be happier with this rifle.
