Suggestions on a Gents folder...

I recently lost a wonderful little Buck executive folder, with brushed stainless handles and my initials engraved on the obverse. After moping for about a month, I decided to replace it with an even better one, but I don't know where to start. I don't hae a credit card, so online ordering would be difficult. Any suggestions on a knife under about 70 dollars, with stainless scales about 3"long and accessible to someone without a credit card? Thanks.

I would suggest a Spyderco Dragonfly with stainless steel handles. You can either go to knife store or buy from an online source and pay by check. Many online reatailers have phone lines and will accomodate you.

I have been looking at some knives for this use myself. Take a look at the Benchmade 330 or 855 models. They have them at 1SKS in your price range.

Although these do not have stainless scales they are nice small folders.

AG Russell makes a line of exclusives that may be just what you are looking for. One of the versions has a brushed stainless handle. Try this link for the one-hand knife series:
http://www.agrussell.com/agrussell/k-94.html

Also, some of the smaller lockbacks may do for you:

And just so I don't come across as a AG Russell worshipper, I have to say that the BM330 Mel Pardue is terrific litle knife.
ATS-34 2.25" Blade, 3.5" closed, G10 with titanium bolsters, no clip, weight is just 1.4 ounces. Best deal i've seen for this knife is at skylands ($65). Check out this link:

Happy hunting

Im not sure if its out yet, but you might consider the Mirage TI from CRKT.
http://www.crkt.com/mirageti.html

Anyway, bead blasted Titanium scales and ACUTO440 steel make it a perfect gentlemans knife. The blade is only 2.37'' which is smaller than what you wanted, but at only $99, seems to be a good buy.

Hope my suggestion helps....

I have played with this little guy at IWA'2000 gun show, it is sweeeeet!

Really very nice gentleman's knife.

  • Kershaw Ti-Hawk, my current suit carry,
  • Kershaw Ricochet,
  • CRKT S-2, I'm going to review it soon,
  • New Gerber AR 3.0
  • One more new Gerber SLG 3.25

I'll second A.G. Russell. I have a small damscus bladed folder with nickel-silver bolster and quince-burl handles. I got it secondhand for $65. Lots of other nice knives available too. Call their 800 number, and they would probably send you a catalog.

I'll second the Benchmade 330. Great little knife if you can find a local high-end cutlery dealer. I suppose you could also look for one in the for sale/trade forums and arranged payment by check or money order.

Anyway, the 330 is nice and very sheeple-friendly, plus it can be opened with one hand.

What kind of finish do these knives (mirage TI) actually have? I have seen some pictures that show a shiny finish (what im after) and others show a dark grey finish ? Would I be able to polish one up without losing the makers marks.

WOW! Thank you all... I am on my way to check out pictures of the BM 330. the CRKT looks great, but I am a big fan of a straight-edge blade...I'll check their website. Any other traditional-type gent's folders out there? thanks.

Tadd,
Here you can get the info from the first hand. Jim Hammond by himself describes his baby.
Of course it is your choice but I think you shouldn't polish Mirage Titanium, believe me it looks really nice!

A really nice gent's knife is the Moki Glory. It isn't quite what you asked for, it has a long stainless bolster with cocobolo scales. Check it out at chaicutlery.com/moki.html. They are very well made, the fit and finish are the best I have ever seen in a factory knife.
