Suggestions on first Hinderer

Getting pretty serious about acquiring my first RH blade and was wondering if you all might have some suggestions on which style/model/features I should consider? My EDC preferences in larger folders are the ZT560, Spyderco Military, Emerson Commander, Buck 110 with pocket clip. As you can see I like just about any blade shape and or profile/grind though I probably like the blade on the ZT0560 the best.

As far as blade length goes the Military is about the longest I carry on a regular basis but I'm not stuck on needing a blade that long so I'm thinking that the XM-18, 3.5" might be the base model I should start with. Where to go from there is kind of what I'm looking for suggestions on. TIA

I'd definitely go with a 3.5" based on the knives you listed. As for blade shape, you have plenty of choices in both production and custom. My suggestion would be to find a production slicer and customize it from there to your liking.

for a production xm18- i would go 3,5 slicer!

love my fde slicer :D (also like the spanto but the slicer is more usable imo)

XM-18 3.5" (spanto, slicer, wharnie...my personal preference is the wharnie but you can't go wrong with any of them). The quintessential XM would be the 3.5" XM-18 Spanto.

Yup. I've been known to mention...... First RHK should be "The" XM18, 3.5" Spanto Flipper, G10 scales - then you go from there and you will.

I too started on the Hinderer road with the 0560. I then bought an XM-18 3.5", and was underwhelmed. It is smaller than the 0560, and feels smaller. Great knife, just smaller. Then I bought an XM-24 slicer, and wow! Then I bought an XM-24 spanto, and wow again.
So what I'm saying is if you love the size of the 0560, go with the 24. If the size of the 0560 is too big, go with the 18.

Thank you all for the suggestions and the great photos. It'll be a while yet before I take the plunge but your responses have given me some things to mull over. My other concern is whether I'll notice that much difference overall between my 0560 and an XM-18? I would imagine an actual Hinderer would be a step up from even a ZT/Hinderer collaboration as far as fit and finish, etc. but now I'm thinking bigger might be better as with an XM-24. To be frank the spanto grind is what first drew to me the Hinderer brand and while I really like my 0560 I've always wished it had the spanto blade.

I'd go slicer. If its an edc your after cutting should be a top priority. And the ZT's may be Ricks designs but they are no XM-18. Once you handle one
you'll notice the difference.

i too bought the 560 before getting the 3.5" spanto. both designed hinderer but the XM18 is much nicer to hold, more solid, rides in the pockets easier etc etc. Although the XM18 is much much dear but the difference is what make a hinderer a hinderer.

I'm also interested in an XM-24. How often are they made? They seem extremely hard to find.

They aren't hard to find. I just look in my pocket. :-)
No in all seriousness, I believe they are made in less numbers, but they are around. There was or is a 24 on the exchange. The 24 is too big for some folks. I love it. Size wise it compares well to the ZT 561 I have as well. I have had about 5 XM18's, I have traded or sold them all. My 24 hasn't left!
