Suggestions on Fixed Blade

Hello all. I am new and looking for any suggestions.

I am looking for a fixed blade knife. I have several folders: CS, CRKT, Spyderco, etc. But have no nice fixed blades (Cold Steel Kobun doesn't count as "nice"). I would like to start carrying one as a backup to my G19. My price range would be $50-$100. Blade length to be @3-5in. I like the looks of the Camillus CQB-1 and CQB-2. But I want something with a finger gaurd or deep index groove. And I want something with a shiny blade. I've got too many black or bead blasted blades already. Something with a nice sheath design would also be nice. I know, I'm asking a lot from a production knife. I like the looks of the Bob Dozier knives, but just can't afford it right now.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Regards:)

The Boker Escort seems nifty and the CRKT Polkowski/Kasper Companion is tremendous I think that that Eric dude makes a nice sheath for it.

It will be for self defense. But I'd like to use it to get the feel of it first. Yes I'd like it to be stainless. Would like to carry it on the belt. Or a nice sheath with different options of carry like the Bud Neely design would be great. I like inverted options.
I just don't like the feel of the Escort or Specialist. And the CRKT Companion just looks and feels too cheap.

I really do like the looks of that SOG Government. A little bigger blade than I wanted, but I may be able to find a sheath that will make it work.

Thanks you guys for your help so far.
Any more suggestions?

I think that you are making a mistake by counting-out the Camillus Cuda CQB-1&2 knives simply 'cause they don't have large hand-guards. I have NO problems with MY hand slipping towards the blade with either of mine, and they DO come with a pretty good Kydex sheath.:).

What is it with Camillus and the word "Cuda"? They stick it on everything, to the point that it's impossible to find what you're looking for.

Apparently, a "Cuda" can be a folding or fixed blade, anywhere from 2.5 to 5.75 inches, use a button opener (if a folder) or not, and cost anywhere from $19.95 to well over $200 (Talonite).

I do like the look of the CQB-2, aka "Terzuola Close Quarter" (which I think I've seen some places list as a "Cuda" too). Now if I could just find one for under $100...

ParaGlock:

CUDA stands for Camillus Ultra Design Advantage, if memory serves me correctly. Of all the blases that Camillus manyfactures, only a small portion of them would be CUDA blades. The CUDA line are thinks like their CQB fixed blades and their more tactical folders. But, Camillus makes the current issue fighting/utility knife, they make the Western like (like the famous Western Bowie), and they make zillions of other knives. You see CUDA on the knive you look at becuae you show for the mroe tactical pieces, I bet.

If all you want it for is self defense, get yourself a $2 screwdriver.

How well does a screwdriver slash? I wonder if that leaves a pretty big size wound in a thrust. They ought to teach the military to put down the fighters and use screwdrivers. Thanks for such a great idea!!!

The Pikuni is a great little knife. It has a variety of carry methods. The knife and sheath are done right. It is one of my most carried knives.

Thanks for that helpful tidbit.

BTW, I had to pay $3.99 for the cheapest 3/16" nutdriver I could find the other day (I was planning on grinding it 'thin'), so I don't think I can get a screwdriver for $2. :p

To some of us, $100 is still a tidy sum of cash.

I wouldn't count out the CQB series either.

How about the SOG Recondo? It has a BG42 blade.

Thanks!

The REKAT Pikuni is a stonewashed finish, I believe. Or satin. It isn't bead blasted (or at least mine isn't). Plus, with a Dremel, polishing wheel, and compound, it will take a nice shiny finish, if that is what you want.

Be aware, however, that the Pikuni grip is only made for a three-finger hold. I knew it when I bought mine, but was still a little surprised at how it felt.

But I haven't had much luck with a dremel on my blades. Thanks for mentioning the three finger thing too.

Here's another candidate for consideration.

Spyderco Bill Moran Featherweight clip point has a ~4" blade in VG10 stainless on a knife that only weighs 3 ounces. It costs about $60-$65 USD from web vendors. The sheath comes with a Blade-Tech TekLok, so the carry options are extremely flexible, including inverted.

Spyderco's page for the Moran Featherweight: http://www.spyderco.com/dealer_prod...1020&mscssid=LAURG3J1XMTG8JQB6B3AXG4N9A728409

I have the drop point version of this knife and it is a very handy belt knife. The convex-edged VG10 was screaming sharp out of the box. If you search here on BFC, you'll find plenty of good comments on the steel's resharpening ease. The kraton inserts, coupled with the handle swells, makes for a very secure grip. Well worth the price, to the point that I'm considering getting a clip point version to reside alongside my drop point version in my EDC rotation.

A big second to the nomination for the Spyderco Moran.

I love it so much that it has inspired two future custom knives.

And, most surprisingly, I have a second one that I bought, and do not use, it lives just to back up my current, so that I never have to be without it.

Check out the Camillus Talon in 154CM. It has more of an index finger cutout, but no guard.
$100, just click on store at the top of the page, and click Camillus...1sks is the only one that has them, assuming there's some left.
