Due to recent events, I am reviving an old practice of carrying disaster preparedness kits in my vehicles. I am also making kits for a few members of my family and am looking for suggestions for a small fixed blade around 4 inch blade length. My 60+ year old Mom, is not able to safetly use a folder due to arthritis, so I am going to get her a small "utility" size fixed blade.

Any suggestions, mainly in the $50.00 and under range?

Thanks

How about the $22 Cold Steel Mini Bushman, with a 4&3/4 inch blade?.:).

For a bit over $50, you could get a Becker Knife and Tool Campanion. 4 1/2 inch blade, and the handle looks like it might work well with arthritic hands.

I'd say just bring your mom down to the sporting goods store and let her pick something out with you along to just double check the quality. For your budget and the intended user, the most important crtieria is that she'll be comfortable using it, I don't think you can get too technical with this decision.

Take a look at DeltaZ's "specials" page. There are some killer bargains. I got a folder and a fixed blade as a birthday present and a couple more for the wife & I. I thought I had seen sharp “out of the box” but these are scary sharp. Fit & finish really nice. The wife has RA also, these are not a problem for her to use.

Just a stisfied customer.

For a bugout/emergency kit, you can't beat a Frost's of Sweden "Mora" style knife. PLastic handle & sheath won't rot, sharp stainless blade should last in storage. Oil up the blade to be sure. About $8.

I agree with RH.
These dirt cheap knives can out cut about 99% of the competition out there IMO.
They have thinner stock than what most Americans are used to, but a knife is a cutting tool first and foremost after all.

For under $10.00 these knives kick serious booty and for that price, you can really stock up.:D
