Suggestions on this Buck 317 Trailblazer?

I recently acquired this Buck 317. It's in need of a little help. As you can see in the pics it is missing a bolster. I don't have a whole lot of $$$ into it as far as these 317's go. So far all I've done is clean it up. Other than making a new bolster I'm wondering if there's any other options? My plan was to clean it up and set it aside. Hoping for one to turn up that has a broken blade or something and perhaps I could scavenge bolster off of that. Let me know what you guys think.https://www.flickr.com/gp/198220658@N02/AW3srASD0q

Send it to Buck. Buck has an excellent warranty. They will fix it, unless they no longer have the parts. You can call and ask before you send it in, if you are concerned about that. Buck warranty.

Or if you are looking for a challenge, You could get a piece of brass, and a file, and have a go at making a bolster yourself.

O.B.

I had thought about sending it to Buck. My only concern was that Buck never actually made this knife. It was a contract knife made by Camillus. Think I'll give them a call see what they have to say.

Yes, the 317 was exclusively a Camillus-made pattern for Buck. They might not be able to do anything with it, as they likely don't have the parts or the tooling for it.

Might wait to see if one of the BF member craftsmen on the forum can help with that - and maybe offer guidance on how you can do it yourself. Bill DeShivs, for example, has occasionally offered tutorials here, on projects like that.

I'm in no big rush to get it fixed by any means. Like I said I don't have a whole lot into it. Less than $30 with the shipping. I have seen 317s that are pretty rough going for $75 to $100 with nicer version bringing a premium. I figured if nothing else this would be a place holder until I find the right one that is in my price range.

If you continue to look for a parts knife. Don’t forget to look for a Camillus version.IMG_4290.jpeg

Nice collection! I've got a pretty good collection of the 5 and 1/4 inch folding Hunters myself. I have a Camillus #6 & #26. I'll have to lay them all out and get a picture of them. I just finished cleaning up a Schrade 225 OT today.
