Well I lost my EDC today whilst moving my tools into this new condo :( and have to replace it asap. (Gerber Armor) suggestions please?

I install ceramics/ marble/granite slabs (counters, murals, etc) Often have to cut rope, cardboard, wrapping, grout/mortar bags, silicone tubes, etc.. There's also a lot of dust that accumulates in the liner, so it needs to be easy to dismantle and put together for maintnance.

I don't want to pay too much, because lately I've been making a nasty habit of misplacing things and the knife is going to be a beater, anything around the 50$ should make my day.

Drop point or even tanto( I like tanto for precision cutting, works better then an exact-o since it doesn't wobble around..

I apologize in advance for the typos and what ever makes no sens, I just got off a 14hour job and having hard time to keep eyes open.

I've never taken apart a knife with an axis lock and I'm a little worried about the dust that will accumulate in there. The price is a little more then I'm willing to spend, like I said, it's intended use is going to be a beater.

Thanks for the suggestion ;)

Spyderco Endura or Delica. And don't take it apart, just blow it out with some compressed air, or a bit of aerosol lubricant to keep the back lock clear. Beat on it all you want, Sal will make more.

Try a Cold Steel Voyager tanto. It's a lockback, so you won't have a complicated mechanism to foul up. If you'd rather have a liner lock, there's the CRKT M16 series, but I wouldn't recommend them for what you want.

For that kind of work, you're better off getting an inexpensive beater, like you say, or something like the Superknife.

I've been meaning to get a real Superknife for a while. For now, I'm using my Benchmade Griptilian for a lot of construction work tasks, and a Husky superknife knock-off for anything "too messy" for the Griptilian.

If folding replacable razor knives aren't your thing, Buck and Kershaw have a lot of well-made, inexpensive knives that would make great beaters. I've seen the Kershaw Chive for about $25.00 at hardware stores.

I didn't even see this. Definitely give the Byrd series a look!

I'm looking at the bird models from spyderco, does anyone know 8Cr13MoV stainless steel?
I'm unfamiliar with this steel and it's edge retention capabilities.

I've had a number of CS tantos. They will surprise you with how sharp they are. Your work with grit and dust would dull anything, though. Get a small ceramic sharpener like a Gatco Tri-Seps and you can touch up the edge very nicely on the job.

Either a Byrd , or maybe a CRKT product . FWIW , once you start carrying better stuff , you are a lot less likley to loose it . I have found this to be true with pens , lites , and knives . The Kershaw NEEDS WORK might fill the bill too .

I'm gonna throw in my agreement to checks the Spyderco Byrds. I picked one up just for kicks, and was so impressed that I've since bought half a dozen more.

As for the blade steel, my experience with it would put it about on par with AUS-8. Definitely good enough for a beater. My current personal favorite is the G10 handled Robin, although if I want something a little heftier, my aluminum handled Crow is quite nice, too.

Well, thank you everyone for the quick responses.
Thanks Esav for finding the next knife I'll be using on the job (CS-29MT Cold Steel Medium Tanto Point Voyager - Plain Edge)

Exactly what I was looking for and in my price range. Thanks for paying close attention.
