Hello all. I haven't posted in the Buck forum before, but I figured this would be the best place to ask this question.
I'm looking to buy hunting knives for my children and I have narrowed it down to the Buck Omni Hunter 12 pt or the Bucklite Max both with blaze orange grip and gut hook. For some reason they like the knives with gut hooks.
They already have a 119 and 110. They just don't seem to be able to get comfortable with one knife.

So which would you all suggest.

Thanks in advance.

Maybe look at the optional/separate gut hook that Buck has out now. That would let them have the knife they like and the hook separate when needed.

Of those two, I would choose the Omni Hunter without hesitation. Better ergonomics and blade shape IMO, and the gut hook on the Omni is the least obtrusive. Better w/o a gut hook, but if they like them, they like them.

I'd say Omni as well, the bucklite max IMHO is an everday knife, although I'm sure I could easily gut a nice whitetail with it. The 12 point is a biga** knife the 10 point would also be an option depending on the size of your game. I guess it also comes in gut hook(sorry I dont pay attention, I dont like the looks personally...but thats me, I know they work well.)

Have you looked at the Alpha Hunter 279 ? It is offered in a gut hook model . But of the two you mention the Omni gets my nod . DM

Thanks for the replies.

Blue Sky I agree about the gut hook. I've never seen much need for them personally.

Dave Martin thanks for the Alpha Hunter suggestion. I have considered others but as stated before the boys just can't seem to find a fixed blade they are comfortable with. both have seen and liked the Omni it seems. So that may be the route that I take for now.

I have a few traditional fixed blades that have been offered in the past but nothing seems to call to them. As we all know it has to be the latest and greatest thing to hit the market that gets the call.

God Bless
