I have a lansky sharpener system at home, been using it for last few months but I need something "portable" for backpack or EDC. I've had an eye on the blademedic knife sharpener from lansky and the "bear grylls" (gerber) sharpener, but to be honest I haven't had luck with gerber. Are either of these any good?
If not, what can you suggest for a simple, portable sharpener for both straight blades and serated?
Can any of them be used for larger blades like my kukri?

Thanks for visiting

A Sharpmaker is pretty compact and is good for maintaining all sorts of edges. For on your person a diamond paddle or Diasharp/Duosharp work well for plain edges. Diamond credit card plates fit in the wallet. A single Sharpmaker rod can touch up serrations in the field but know that they are easily shattered.

I don't know anything about the field sharpeners you mentioned. Any sharpener can do a kukri, but will take longer if it is a small stone/plate.

For a kukri or a hatchet I like to use a small fine bastard file. For a knife I like to use a small Arkansas stone. With the Arkansas stone you have to sharpen the knife before it gets dull, because it's a very fine stone. Mine is anyway.

A set of DMT card sharpeners will run you about $30 shipped, and they work great.

For serrations, look into some really small fine files or diamond sharpening rods.

Coarse/fine DMT Diafold for pocket or pack. For EDC the the DMT Mini-Sharp is great since it's small enough to go on your key ring.

Fallkniven DC4
It's the one ray mears is using an is a wonderful stone
This kit is always with me:

The sheath is from my wife's brand (et...bang), DC4 and a handmade double sided leather strop.
You can get great edges with this

My EDC sharpening kit is similar to lutejones. It consists of a Fallkniven DC3, a small double-sided strop loaded on the rough side and both are wrapped around with a polishing cloth loaded with Ren Wax and secured with a rubber band. My larger field kit includes a DC4, strop, DMT coarse, some wet/dry sandpaper, a small ceramic rod with a V edge and Marine Tuff-Cloth all inside a Otterbox.
