Suggestions to polish bone stabilized with epoxy

While my son was home for the holidays, we made our first knife with a bone/epoxy handle. He got it shaped the way he wanted, but had to return to school before we could polish the scales. I told him I’d polish & send to him. (Don’t see how to post a pic)

The bone was very poris, probably 60/40 bone & epoxy. Could more experienced knife makers give some suggestions on how to polish ?
 
if you sand cleanly to 1000 grit, and polish on a buffing wheel with white compound , it should shine nicely.
 
On porous bone I wet sand with several coats of a wood sanding sealer. Then ya don't get so much gunk down in there from the buffing. Then ya get this:
