Hey everybody. I'm looking for a solid camp axe. I have a CS Trail Boss, but it is a bit small. I think I would like 30" of handle give or take. Maybe somewhere between 2.5 and 3.5 pounds. A couple that I have seen include the Snow & Nealley Single Bit Axe and the Wetterlings Limbing Axe. I have seen a fair deal of negative feedback on the S&N stuff--quality issues. The Wetterlings may not be worth the cost--I don't know. I would like to avoid spending too much, but I know you generally get what you pay for. Lemme know your thoughts--thanks:)

Short of restoring your own vintage axe, I'm sure most folk's here would agree with me...

Get yourself a Council Tool boy's axe! Their made in the USA and are of good quality. I have one as well as many other folk's here and as far as I can tell, we all love them.
Depending on where you purchase them, they can usually be had for less than 30 bucks :)

Welcome aboard, Snake!

It would help us to know how you plan to use this axe. Is it for car-camping of backpacking. Given the size and weight you've described I'm guessing it's for car camping. If so then you're on the right track. Are you planning on using this for felling, bucking, splitting, all of the above? Do you want to do bushcrafting with it as well?

hey there...

Wierd--I've actually tried to reply to this thread twice now and came back today to see that my posts are not here. The condensed version...camping, limbing, general outdoors...thanks for the tips. I am strongly considering the CTBA. Thanks again:D

Being that these Forest Service Boy's Axes are a limited quantity I ordered one. I placed my order with Council Tools directly, they seem to be the only source for them now.
