So I have been on this forum for about a year and have done a couple of knife handles in the past but wanted to try my hand at making my own, so I did. I have been working on it for most of the summer. This knife was made 90% by files and then i did use a 1x30 sander i actually got on this forum to do most of the work after ht. Its not perfect but I am happy with the way it turned out for a first. Please, comments and criticisms are welcome.

so here are the specs: 3/16" O1, hand rubbed to 600 grit, 3.75" blade with 4" handle, alternative ivory bolster and purple heart scales.
(first time posting pics so hopefully this works)

Congrats on getting bit by the bug - and the knife.
I still have my first few attempts and NOBODY gets to see them!
Your next step is to visit a knifemaker in your area . There are several in Md,and Ted Merchant is only a stone's (knife's) throw away from you ,and has regular events at his home/shop. There is also the Hammer -in at Frederick,Md every year, as well as the show in Timonium in Nov.

stay sharp, Don.

thank you all for the kind words. I have met a couple of the local knifemakers and I am trying to join a local blacksmith guild and take some classes but, being in college, I am hard pressed on time. Hopefully next year. Hopefully I can meet Ted at the Chesapeake knife show. Thanks for the comments.

Great effort. I like the shape.

Just a photo tip. I was told by someone from the forum. I will not quote his name incase I get it a little wrong.

To the effect of the light meters in the digital cameras can be fooled by the colours in the back ground. So if you take a set of photos with different back grounds some will give you true colour some not so true.

If your camera is digital try it in good light a light blue card a yellow cars a red card and a green card, a grey card and as many others as you like.
You will see the handle would and blade charge color and give a better picture. when I say card it can be anything.

I tried it it really works.

Looks like I may have just made a goose of myself I just went back to the top and the rest of your images have down loaded
I se you have a selection already. The second from the bottom looks the most like purple heart to me.

I will look forward to the next project.

Thanks for the tip Reg. Actually the pics with the wood background were later pics and they turned out a lot better. I'll keep the different color cards in mind. I am looking forwarding to starting another project and hopefully wont have to wait till next summer to start again:D

That looks pretty good to me. I'm glad to see the ole 1x30 has been put to good use!!

Yup rocketmann, I could never had finished this blade without the 1x30. thanks again and thanks for the compliment.

Lookin' good! We missed you at the last meeting on Sunday! Of course, YOU didn't miss much, it was pretty hot so it was a kind of sparse meeting. I'd be willing to bet that you won't make it all the way to next summer before starting something new ;) If you need a hand with anything let me know. Things have been moving a little slow around here (had a car accident, beat up my left arm a bit...should be better soon) but once we get back up to speed you're welcome to come up to the house if anything here in my shop can help!

I like the contours that you sanded into the handle. It really gives the knife a good feel (I would guess since I can't hold it) compared to a square handle. Good job!!!!

Thanks for the compliments guys. The handle is very comfortable in the hand, at least in my hand. Sorry to hear about the car accident deker. I hope your arm heals fast. I will have to take you up on that offer sometime. I am leaveing for college this sat and prob wont be back for a while. Hope to see you soon.
