Hi, guys, I am a Italian new member of this Forum which I have found really interesting and full if infos.
I have a question for you. I tried to search on Iternet adn in this forum , but quite honestly I did not gget clear asnwers.

I am going to be In Alaska for 3 weeks next summer. I will arrive in Vancouver, 3 day of Ferry, Whale watching, then fly to Anchorage, one day to Lake Clark to see bears in the wild; then form Anchorage I will rent a car , several days in back country in the Denali NP, Fairbanks including Dalton Highway, Tok, Kenai etc..

As you see I will be in cities and boat where I do not need a knife with me, but also in the bush or in the Dalton where is knife could be helpful. I own a Fallkniven A1 (6 inches fixed blade).

If I understood well I would be not allowed to carry with me my knife, but just a small pocket knife. My wish would be to keep in the bag the knife where it is not needed, while put it in my photo backpack in the bush.

What I am allowed to do? What do you recommend to me?:)

Benvenuto!

Alaska's law can be a bit difficult to find on the internet because they have changed it recently. The most reliable source is the website for the state government itself (http://www.legis.state.ak.us/basis/folio.asp) as it will be the most up to date.

In particular Sections 11.61.200 and 11.61.220 govern the carry of knives and weapons. I will summarize for your particular situation:

If you are over 21 years old, it is legal to carry a knife like yours so long as you are behaving lawfully. If you are stopped by a police officer, you must tell him you have the knife and must do as he says regarding it, such as letting him take it or giving to him if asked to do so. He may give it back if he determines you are not suspicious.

One limitation to this is that there may be laws in the local cities that are more strict, although they tend to be in the large urban places. I will leave that to one of the other forum members who is from Alaska.

Full link to the law:
http://www.legis.state.ak.us/basis/...27as1156740!27]/doc/{t4718}/pageitems={body}?

I would like to ask you about knife laws in Italy, if you don't mind. I am traveling there in the fall.

Thanks for your info. I would welcome any other feedback specially by someone living in Alaska.
In Italy you cannot carry a knife unless you need it for a specific purpose. Let me explain better: if you are in downtown it would very difficult to explain why you carry a knife (I am not talking of a utility pocket knife with less than 3 inches blade which it is allowed); but if you are going by car to reach a forest for camping or hiking, and you have a backpack and you dress in appropriate and consistent way, and you have the knife in the back fo your car , then you do not have any problem.
enjoy your trip to Italy.
