Here are a few of my Solar pictures I have taken over the last year. Notice the flares, sun spots, filaments and prominences.

Just to give us some perspective on size, how big do you think those black spots in the first pic are? Are they as big as the planet earth?

Those sun spots could swallow up about two earths.

wow. Do you have a picture of your set-up?

Next time I set up my solar scope I will take a couple of pictures of it. The picture in my sig. is my TeleVue NP101 which I use for viewing the planets and sky and also for taking pictures of the planets.

Actually my solar scope has two filters on it. A 90mm filter on the front objective and a built in 60mm filter plus a 30mm blocking filter. It cost me about $13,000. Then another $1,500 for the mount and tripod. You can get a PST solar scope by Coronado which is the smallest and it only cost about $5 or 6 hundred. You won't get much surface detail but you will be able to see some prominences. It is a good solar scope to start out with. If your interested I will tell you where to get it.
