Was thinking about getting a Sun Shower and was curious, has anyone heated one with the radiant heat of a camp fire? Thanks.

ive heated one in the sun. it took about 8 hours to get to about 90 degrees, on the roof of a car. havent tried heating next to a fire. should work as long as it isnt too close.

If the fire is not hotter than the sun would be, it should be OK.

I have only used them in the sun, and the models with clear plastic on the "up" side seem to work faster.

Maybe you could speed up the sun by using a solar oven or a parabala. I would be concerned about melting the bag, unless it was submerged in a large pot of water.

Hey Guys....

These showers work if you have the time to screw around with them..

When we remote hunt without proper showers or running water we use a bucket shower..

Simply a 5-6 gallon pail with a shower head installed into the bottom of the pail. The shower head has a shut off on it...

We fill half the pail with cold water, and the rest is heated over the fire or stove.

Theres almost enough water in it for 2 people to have a quick shower,, or enough for one person to have a really good shower...

After filling the bucket is hung in a tree and we usually have some type of matt, plywood or something to stand on...

It makes for a pretty good shower...

I'm working on an electric pumped shower for this year as it looks like we'll be staying in a remote cabin again for this years bear hunt..
The pump is simply hooked up to the trucks battery...

Solar showers aren't bad at all, as long as the sun's out. I used one for an entire summer.

However, I think if it's close enough to a fire to get the water warm, then it's close enough to get hot sparks that will melt the plastic bag. A better idea, heat your water in a bucket on a fire or stove and pour the hot water into the Solar Shower.

Best Wishes,

We use one on every dive trip. Heat the water in a pot on the fire then add cold water as needed. If you want you could do this in the early AM then put the shower in a insulated cooler, it will stay hot all day.

I poked a bunch of holes in a spare cap for one of my Platypus bottles; works great without additional stuff to carry around.
