at the fitch history reservation north of lawrence kansas and just north of the kaw river. its used by the univ for biological and natural history study. over 150 yrs ago it was a delaware res before they were once more relocated to ok. great land, lots of woods, some natural prairie and a small spring-fed lake. and public access(tho no pets are allowed) maybe 12 miles of trails(and of course i had to do some bushwhacking...)

saw quite a few deer, tho never did get a pic of any. saw some turkey also. found these tracks and since there aren't "supposed" to be any dogs running about, wondered if they were coyote... what you guys think??

as you can see by nancy's clothing, tho its almost april, the temps were maybe about 50, intermitent clouds and somewhat windy. never got too warm with a thin wool layer, a flannel shirt and a windvest.

Thanks for taking us along. I can think of worse places to be. Glad you got out and had a good time.

Great pics... Nice place, and good setup... The tracks could be Coyote, but the register (the way one track wants to fall in o the other) seems sloppy suggesting domestic or feral dogs, But my track-fu is very weak,,, Rick, or watchful will be able to give you a better answer.

thanks rr. couldnt decide if they were simply domestic dogs or coyote. we heard coyote even tho it was the middle of the day, along with great horned and barred owls(better at bird identification than tracks...)there a long stretch of wooded and uninhabited land along the north side of the kaw in this area. great habitat for wildlife.

Cool stuff. I love birding. It is also possible the overlapping tracks are from seperate animals... or the same animal on different trips.. so it could be coyote, like I said... my tracking is weak.. But I have some mentoring sessions with a tracker this summer so I;m hoping to learn a good deal more.
