Having recently acquired the major issue of getting new knives and no room to hang them I put on my thinking cap.
It's way too small these days and I think the thing is plumb worn out to be honest but I come up with a plan none the less.

I had the single panel slide out knife rack and figured I'd double up on it, make it a 2fer so to speak. Calculated there was enough room and today I went at it. Had the track left over from the first panel, and the other half of the peg board too, only needed one more set of wheels.

Here's some pics.

The empty corner with the original panel removed. A feat in itself matching each knife to it's sheath, taking them all down etc.

The pile.

The installed second track, actually had to reinstall track one as well to hit rafters.

A clean slate or start over....

Track one, couldn't get everything back on that I took off, must not have went tight enough.

Track two, what I couldn't get on track one??? but still lots of space to fill, wife won't be pleased.

Bookie's corner.

My goodest curved spine and Yek Chirra by Thamar.

Foxy Folly and Mustang knife in easy reach.

One serious injury on this little beauty. I knew it was falling, hands were busy, tried to get my foot under it as I knew it would fall point first. Carpet over concrete floor, I knew it was gonna hurt. Figured a owy and a bandaid on my foot was better than a ruined tip but I was too slow. I peened it back some and a little stoning will fix it up as new but still broke my heart.

Well time to hit the grub line, back to the sweat shop tomorrow. How sad is that. At least I'm happy and satisfied with how my Sunday went.

There's probably some lighter duty hardware that would work just fine but I tend to lean towards heavy duty rather than marginal.

I think it's rated for 500 pounds, doubt I'll every get close to that even with me hanging on the wall which is pure possibility when I start filling in the gaps, wife might get drastic ya know?

Excellent idea, Bawanna. To bad about that point. I hate it all to blazes just to snag a point on a whetstone, let alone drop it on the floor! I think Kamidog and I ought to show up to your place to help you celebrate a new Khukuri Display Door by eatin' & drinkin' you outta shop and home. Another good idea, eh? I could even show you how to do your own dolls!

Well I've recently been on Ndogs naughty list but if all is forgiven come on up. Won't take long to eat me out of shop and home and we'll have a fine time doing it.

I'll even have my mom build us a couple fine pecan pies. I know that's erogenous zone right there.

Naughty list and pecan pie is an oxymoron there! Aint nothin but good comes from pecan pie! That a heck of a good ideer Bookie! Ill keep an eye open for some pecans. You didnt do nothing to get on my naughty list cept maybe go fishing for a week but thats just cause i aint been fishing in four years. Thats has never happened in my lifetime so im going this weekend:D If the water is high enough im going noodling in my favorite cave. Think i should go down with a KLVUK in case I get a bigun?

I like to be able to see them and access them. Nice to look at but practical from a grab and go stand point too.

Also makes good use of that corner in the closet I can't get to. Had I know when I built the addition that I was gonna be a full time sitter I never would have put that closet in, course I would have made it twice as big too.

I think they call that 20/20 hindsight.

I would recommend that you get some of those small felt pads that have the sticky backing and put it anywhere the blade, especially the edge touches the metal holder. I had a decorative knife that came mounted and the peg was metal. Even though it was in a temperature controlled room the place where the two different metals meet there was a considerable rust spot that while not large, went into the edge deep enough to be an issue.

As soon as I saw that i checked on my only kukri mounted similarly and sure enough a rust spot had already started forming. The bad part is that it happens out of sight so when you look at them all appears normal. Luckily I caught it early on the kukri and I was able to fix it with minimal metal removal but even then, that represented more metal removal than any of my users have ever had.

I had a recent move and unfortunately don't have a dedicated office in the new house so I can't display all my blades. You did a great job of making the available space work! Gives me hope.

I wrapped the metal hooks with vinyl where the blades touch. Keeps them from slipping too.

Having them like this I also take them all down frequently to play with so hopefully any issues will be noticed sooner rather than later.

I'm hoping to find some rubber like surgical tubing to slip over the hooks, might be better yet.
I tried shrink tube but it just slipped off after a time, to small a diameter, or too large a shrink tube either / or.

Someday if I get one of them power chairs that goes up and down I can fill up some of that empty upper area. I put them high as I could reach.

I'll think of something to hang up there that don't need to come down often. I had sheaths up there for awhile but think I'll find something else. Put all the sheaths properly tagged in a big tupperware tote, now I just need to find a place to put the tupperware tote. Never seems to end.

Glad you made more room for stockwork and reloading.
You look like just the man who would want a Vietnam era used wax soaked Camillus Jet Pilot knife hanging on that board...

I have surgical tubing I use in rifle stock repair. You need some? Understand well about the results from different metals in contact with one another, so am glad my khuk rack is all wood.

Bawanna, I really like your display. I've been trying to figure out a way to display my khukuri collection, but my problem is that I caught the HIKV so bad, I now have over 50 to display. I've been trying to figure out some way to display them with their sheaths next to the khukuris, because I don't want to have to somehow mark all of the khukuris and the sheaths to identify which one goes with which. But so far I haven't been able to come up with any workable ideas. I don't have room for glass display cabinets, so I've been trying to come up with some other approach. But for now, they are just sitting in piles, with my users piled on my coffee table and distributed around my house... They deserve better!

I too wanted to display the sheaths but just no where near enough room. I also feel badly about all the forgotten Karda's and Chakma's. I want to preserve them well and have access but not enough room to display.

I was surprised how the knives and sheaths all found each other and I emptied the wall. I kept counting and couldn't remember where I had all the sheaths, it wasn't looking good but then I remembered a few didn't have sheaths and usually I hit the right sheath with the right knife first or second try and everything worked out fine. I did tag each sheath and each knife as I hung everything back up. It was an all day very hot project, had a fan blowing full blast, but it was also fun.

I do display the sheaths for my two swords in another small glass enclosed case. Very small, only holds two but it works well and keeps all the dust off of them fairly well.

I seem to make a lot of dust working wood out there. Be nice to keep the wood working and the other stuff separate. Maybe some day if there are enough days I'll get some climate control in my shop and make dust out there?

Is that the same as the Camillus in Bookies corner compliments of Mr. Bookie himself? It's near perfect and he respected and took darn good care of it. Why he blessed me with it's possession is still a mystery. It's a neat little knife.

Maybe drilling some wood dowels and slipping over them peg board hooks would be a fine idea? Guy could whittle a little knotch so the blades don't slip and handle too for that matter.
I used to use surgical tubing for pencil led when I fished the rivers for Steelhead, I can probably get some at a sporting goods store. I been meaning to get some for glueing stocks together too.

Sweet cave Bawanna buddy! I could spend all day in there playing with your toys. I see you have the mini AK and 12 AK I sent you on display. Nice to see they are being appreciated outside of my home. Thanks for sharing... I don't have a man cave, but I do have a ton of "toys".
I will try and take some pictures...

Thanks for that clarification, I try to note a little history and where they come from on their little ID tags, I'll try to remember to add this information for when the archeoligist are trying to sort out my life.

I actually thought of you as I was handling my much cherished but very large Foxy Folly. The handle is quite large and can't really be effectively reduced due to the metal fittings etc.
IF??? I can pry it out of my own greedy cleptomaniac hoarding hands I'll send it to you. Be perfect for a big handed fella such as yourself.

Sounds good to me friend! I probably have something very nice with a narrower grip if you are ever inclined to trade. I do not have a Fox Folly and I would love one. Let me know when you get tired of looking at it... There is a kukri at my house with your name on it.
