EMS. Got the Done Deal.

I had a concern, based on the title of the posting, that this was a "project knife," which often means that a knife needs rust removal or handle repair. However, Yangdu clarified that it was literally used as her "Sunday morning project," to cut some tree limbs and bushes. That makes me happy, and the blade is mine. A nice Sunday acquisition. I like the Chainpura model, and Ram Kumar never disappoints.

David ... I recently received a slight blem which might be called a project. Very minor rust and pitting which make it a true utility blade at a great price. I didn't want a wall hanger, so Auntie's blem or project was perfect for my needs. I know you have a vast collection, so this is probably not news to you.

At nearly two pounds and 22" in length, is there much over-swing in wielding a blade of that size and weight?

Usually when Yangdu says "project knife" she means something substantial, like a huge crack or a handle that needs replacement. I don't mind minor work, but it appears that this blade doesn't even need that.

Yes, there would be overswing in a blade like this. The problem is not the weight alone or the length alone. The problem is that the balance point (center of gravity) is farther out from the hand. A shorter blade of the same weight would be easier to swing for that reason. However, I have other blades for chopping.

The kamis tend to make handles proportional to the blade length, so sometimes a long blade would have too much girth for my average sized hands. I don't think that's the case with this one.

I had a bone-handled sword once that was absolutely beautiful, but the handle was way too thick for my hands, so I reluctantly decided to trade it. I still wish I hadn't.
