A favorite morning activity when I can have the family room to myself.

That's the kind of thing I like doing on a Sunday morning Leghog  Instead, today, I had to clean the cooker (and repair a minor fault) :grumpy: Hopefully, 'normal service' will resume next week! :D

Usually I spend my Sunday mornings in church. While I've been waiting to have this surgery I haven't been attending because I can't sit on those pews that long. Since I'm a bit like a kid and require a pastime I've got into the habit of playing with my knives. This morning is a bit different yesterday I bought a used telescope for very little money and I've been playing with it. I feel another hobby coming on and I have a feeling it might be a bit more costly than knives.

I need to get into the habit of sharpening my knives once a week or so. I tend to wait until I have a dozen knives that can't tear paper before I sweat for 3 hours sharpening all of my knives. A half hour session once a week would be a much more enjoyable experience.

Man I love that mug lol! Isn't the favorite mug the best?

I admit I prefer to be in church on Sunday mornings also. Then after church I usually spend the afternoon playing outside with the kids and then cooking for my family and my parents.

My sharpening time comes at work after I get everyone on target for the night. I'll sit down and reprofile if I need to. Usually though, I just touch up he edge when I pick up the knife I'll carry that day if I need it. The sharp maker stays in the drawer by my coffee pot and I'll touch it up while my coffee makes.

I don't know why I thought of this but I remember trying to learn how to sharpen knives and spending hours working on them only to find they were a lot duller than before I started. I tried every trick I heard of trying to raise a burr but it just never happened. I paid so much attention to what I was doing concentrating on angle, pressure counting strokes you name it I tried it. Now many years later I barely pay attention to what I'm doing I can't remember the last time I counted strokes. I don't claim to be a sharpening guru but sitting down with a knife and a sharpening stone I can put an edge on a knife that will shave hair and slice tissue paper while watching TV. Again I don't know why I thought about this but I get a chuckle when I think about how hard learning how to freehand sharpen was for me.
Okay you can have your thread back and sorry for the interruption.
