First I'll see if I can get decent pix. If I do then I'll post the description.

Sunday night and dark outside so I tried the new Sony and flash and this is what I got.

This is by Sgt. Karka. It's called a Khurti and is a common tool used a lot by Rai and Limbu folks who are neighbors of the Sherpas up in the highlands. Sgt. Karka has fancied this up to an incredible degree. Inlay, scrollwork and five pointed stars all along the back of the blade on both sides. Fit and finish are excellent. Blade is hardened up to about 58 or 59 Rc and it's sharp. The handle is expecially interesting. Sgt. Karka had his kid translate his description and he says the handle is made of "elephant tooth." It has the look and feel but I'll not swear to it. You can decide.

The scabbard is very well done albeit I don't like the touristy velvet. As you can see in the pix mouth is engraved and so is the tip and it's well done.

Since this is the best done hasiya or khurti I've seen to date I'm going to price it at $195.

One last thing: 14.27 overall length, one pound.

Email.

They opened in AOL. Let me try netscape and IE and see what happens. If I get them I'll post the verbage.

Hmmm...

I just talked to Yangdu about getting me one of those...(similar anyway...asked for a Villager or a blem)

Sorry...it was a hasiya that I wanted...got a ton of "decorative" grass that needs to be cut a couple of times each year. A definative worker is what I need...something to actually abuse in the garden.

How totally unfair. This is exactly the kind of thing I always wait around for -- the odd piece with 'loud' decoration and color -- and when it finally turns up, I have no cash for it. :(

If it goes unclaimed, I'll save up for it, and if it doesn't, I hope Sgt. Karka can be encouraged to make another.

I have always wanted one of those. If any come in that are less fancy and therefore slightly less expensive I want one!

If the handle is ivory the price is right. If not then I have it overpriced. I'm not sure so let's take it down to $150.

I want a working model- a villager like Hollowdweller said.

If the handle is ivory 150 may be too little. 200 may be too little.

Uncle, what is the difference between a hasiya and a khurti?

Is it regional names or is there a slight difference in design. I have looked for a difference in design, beyond me.....DAG

I've still got my Blue Heeler:)

Made my sons Rotweiller/Chow mix tow the line , while I was dog sitting over the holidays. :D
