Yesterday was one of those glorious shining winter days. One where you just have to get out-even if the the Daytona was on.
Earlier I had won a giveaway knife and ferro steel from sadiejane.(Thanks again)The day would give me a chance to try it out on various outside duties

Went to a swamp on my trapping area to have a look. With the amount of snow we have its easier to get around. The rest of the year its a jungle just to even get near it
Looking north

If you remember my trapping post from last week you will know we have had lots of snow.Snowing now and more on the way enough already
This is a beaver lodge. You can always tell an occupied one in winter as the beaver build them with a little thinner roof to allow heat to escape melt snow and help properly ventilate the lodge Notice the divet of snow on the top.Wonder what the R value of this lodge is

After a couple miles walking and looking around time for fire, tea and a snack
begbiewalk008.jpg

The ever silent foreman making sure I get it right especially her share of the cookies
begbiewalk006.jpg

Friend Jeff Him and I have done some travelling had some fine times out and about and still do.He started the fire
begbiewalk007.jpg

The sun was steadily dropping towards the skyline, once gone the coats hats and gloves went on fast and the temparature dropped to -15c
begbiewalk011.jpg

Headed back along the far edge of the wetland so we could do a loop
begbiewalk014.jpg

Always nice to see the animal activity in the snow. Some otter tracks
begbiewalk009.jpg

We has encountered weasel mink otter marten wolverine and the coyotes are starting to pair up for their favourite time of year-mating season. If your a coyote dont miss it lol

The fire from a distance

Great day looking south

Knife and steel worked well for the small tasks we put it through. It will likely go into my moose/elk hunting gear

incredible flashbacks to a region i grew up in! LOVE THOSE PICS!

PS, i get vacation (one week) in September or so......will be heading your way if possible!

whats harder--snowshoes or x-country skiing? love your pics, when a dog crosses his legs like that he's really happy & relaxed. ---dennis

I could look at your pics all day! Beautiful country and great post!

Howdy Dennis-The snowshoes are the harder, have to walk up and down every hill, whereas the skis if the grade is steep enough you can ride on them for away.Snowshoes win hands down in thickly wooded terrain although you can make do on the skis.
Bush If you do come this way we can make plans for something
