Recommendations on where to get good quality sunglasses
for a reasonable price ?

Always see the ones at Wall-mart etc, or sidewalk venders but never sure of the quality...

I just bought a pair of "Native" glasses. I really like them. They've got a few features that the rest of the market doesn't seem to have all put together in one sunglass:

- Lifetime warranty
- ventilation holes along the brow
- nice rubber nose pieces
- straight temples
- super light weight
- interchangable polarized lenses (polycarbonate)

They've very comfortable to wear long-term. They were about $100 with 3 sets of lenses (2 non-polarized, 1 polarized).

I used to sell sunglasses (polarized) in my dad's business, and so I know them fairly well, and these Natives strike be as being an excellent deal.

Gus,

Can not provide where to get them (got mine on TDY in Freeport, Maine--perhaps kinzli can), but another vote for Native. Bought a pair last June before I spent the summer in the Bahamas doing counterdrug--great glasses...never wanted to slip off my head and for some reason, never had to worry about sweat getting on the lenses (once upon a time, I had a pair of Oakleys--can't remember the specific model...great glasses, but darn if they wouldn't pool the perspiration on the lenses--gets old real quick). Still wearing the same pair. No issues, minus my being a dumbass one day last summer at AUTEC (USN base) and sliding them along the tarmac with my size 14s...really need to send back to get that one scratch fixed/replaced.

I wear Smith & Wesson Magnum shooting glasses (smoked lense, not yellow). Got them at a local work clothes store for $7.00 (Cabelas was just to show them to you). Nice thing is, they are cheap, light weight, ANZI rated.

I also have a pair of clear ones that I use as my safety glasses when I use my chainsaw, table saw, etc.

Gargoyles fan here. I've been wearing black ice Classics for 6 or 7 years now without a problem. I picked up a pair of black ice Classic 85's for a spare. I also have the Classic safety glasses I wear for shooting.
You can probably pick them up at your local mall. Most places that carry higher quality sun glasses seem to carry them.

Oakley glasses for optical clarity and eye protection. I read that there is zero distortion (no headaches from eye strain!!) and I have also read of many stories where the glasses have saved eyes because they are very tough. They do look cool and funky, but they perform, perform, perform. Go ahead and spend some bucks on soem good glasses, your eyes are worth it!

I've worn different Ray Bans for the past few years, and really like them. I can't remember what model I have, but I bought them at Academy for about $120 or so.

I've got prescription Ray Bans. They're very nice except for one small thing: they get finger oils on them very easily and it's hard to wipe off. Gotta get some windex for the car.....

Left my Oakley M frames on the counter at an auto parts store the other day, and they disappeared :grumpy:
7 years of being dropped, stepped on, left here, there, and everywhere, driving, swimming, used as safety glasses at work, being dismantled by friends' kids, tossed in the floorboard of my truck when not being worn, etc, etc (I'm not particularly careful with any of my stuff:o).
Did replace the lens a couple of years ago, as the originals were scratched up really badly.
Little question as to what my next pair of sunglasses will be.
Was about to buy spare pair, anyway...
I wear sunglasses constantly, and am always looking at new ones. Price really isn't an object, and I would willingly pay for much more expensive glasses, being my single most used piece of gear (not to mention I don't lose them very often-only 3 pair: one each of Ray-Bans, Gargoyles, and Oakleys in the last 17 years), just haven't found anything I like better than M frames.

I've always liked Serengeties for the color. They're a bit weird to get used to at first, but I love them now. Whereas normal grey ones limit the light hitting your eyes, these tint it. So instead of bright, white light hitting your eyes, you get rosy orange light. So everything is just as bright and brilliant as though you weren't wearing sunglasses, but without the white light killing your eyes. Whereas with grey lenses, everything looks like it's dull and cloudy out.

I personally won't use plastic lenses; they scratch too easily. Many don't like glass because it's heavy, but the Serengeties I wear (forget the model--Wanderers maybe? might be discontinued) are very light. Warranty is good: I had a (rather scratched-up) pair break at the screw that holds the lens tight in the frame and they sent me a new pair.

Best part, they only cost me $40. If there's a Big 5 sporting goods store near you, check the ads; they often have extremely good sales. $40 for a $150 pair of glasses (probably $200 at the mall) is a good deal...so I bought 2.

I had the opportunity to pick up my choice of oakley's for half price a few years ago. I decided to go for it and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I went with the ice c-wires. Now that I've worn them constantly for the last few years there's no way I could go back to anything else. My brother has M-frames, which are also very nice, but they don't fit my head as it is rather narrow.

If you do not mind, where did you get it for half the retail price?

I had a friend that worked at sunglass hut. One summer he was able to buy up to five pairs at a 50% employee discount, so he hooked me up. Even his normal discount was pretty good, though. I think it was usually 30%.

Another vote for Oaley here. They are expensive and a little wild looking, but their clarity and toughness makes them worth the extra cost. I have a pair of spring hinge A-wires and a set of black Half-jackets, both of which are very, very comfortable and somewhat conservatively styled.

Edit: Here's their website, and you can find most or all of their model line at just about any Sunglass Hut. Sometimes you can find small local dealers that will give you a good deal, I got about 25% off of mine by buying from a local motorcycle shop.

I like Maui Jim with polarized lenses. Also, Rayban's predator series rocks.

I recently bought a pair of Revo's similar to the Maui Jim's but a lot less expensive. I've been very pleased with them. I used to wear M-frames.
