No...I'm not talking about somebodies misshapen hind quarters :p

This is a good idea for finding old knives that folks have lost. A guy from Case sent Tony a ziplock bag with some old knives he found under a dock in Lake Erie. He is an avid scuba diver and we thought it would be cool for you to see what he found. Can you figure out what brand and pattern these are?

I'll help on one of them...take note of the swell-center knife that is hafted in ebony...you know, that wood that isn't very durable  :D Notice there is no shrinking, cracking, checking, swelling etc. like you would expect from anything with wood that has been submerged in water for decades. We are guessing that this knife is an Empire Winstead swell-center jack, because of the shield. There is no telling how long that knife was in the water but the Ebony stood up well.

Wow that is intense. Those have just been...wow. But that ebony has held up awesome! I figured the handles would have been in worse condition.

Wow, that is incredible.

Clean those badboys up and put em on the exchange !

:D

Cool little story , I wonder what words were uttered as the knife sank into the drink ?

Pretty cool. Don't you think you should clean them now? :D

I bet the guys who lost those knives were pretty ticked. They should've listened to you.

I'd guess the wood jack a Schrade or HSB OVB

I'll bet a few bucks the Ebony was made by NYK!

I saw a Humason & Beckely knife on eBay a while back that had a shield very similar to the ebony jack. Maybe the scout knife is a NYK Co.?

So, will the ebony on, say, a Queen Moose be of a similar quality?;)

Very cool find! Thanks for sharing.

I find it interesting that it appears as if two knives at least were being used, when the deep six claimed them? I find it especially interesting that it appears as if the secondary blade on the swell center was the one being used!

Great post, thanks!

Ken

I am willing to bet every one of those knives was lost the same way....

Dropped while cutting some fishing line or some other fishing related task while fishing off of that dock.

How would I know this.... Experience.

I know for a fact that there is a small SAK with my initials on it under a dock on a small Kansas farm-pond:D

You might be right on the scout, Mike. The bone says Walden Cutlery Handle and Manufacturing, so could be NYK, Walden or Schrade, IMO.

Those are cool! You may be able to sell them to those kids that buy their jeans with rips and holes in them already! :D

That horrible feeling... cutting bait, drop your only pocket knife, and watch it make a perfect bounce between the planks.
