Anybody carry one of these? Seems like a cool, long term fire starter if you live in an area with alot of sun.

Never heard of them,
don't know what they are.......

I don't think I have used one.

Could I please have a link to these? They sound too good to be true.

I guess the weak link is the need to keep the reflector clean. Looks more cool than practical. For the money Firesteel is more reliable in any environment IMHO.

I've read that a reflector from a flashlight works in the same fashion. Insert the cigarette up through where the bulb would sit, at the focal point, then point it at the sun. Don't think I ever tried it, though.

Somebody put up a vid of ray mears walk about and he used one like this one and highly suggested it for sunny dry areas. One benefit would be as long and you did not break it or get dirty, it would outlast even a firesteel for long term survival/bushcraft.

I bought one of these a while back. Fairly light but a little bulky and seems a little fragile. The tinder did not burst into flames like I had hoped. Basically the same as a large magnifying glass. I would not buy one again. Maybe a large fresnel lens would be better to have, or a large plastic lens that could be used for more things than fire.
