Yesterday morning I was on the river with my two good friends Larry and Steve. We had just finished trolling on an up stream pass and just got turned around to start trolling down stream when I told Steve he needed to get a picture of the sunrise. He no more got turned around to get his camera when I saw his pole go down. Normally when a salmon strikes the pole is slammed down pretty violently but this strike looked more like he had caught a pile of weeds. The pile of weeds turned out to be 36 pound chinook salmon. Both Larry and I had visions of catching one of these ourselves but as it turned out Steve's was the only one on our boat after about 8 hours of fishing. After I saw this picture I felt I needed to share it.

Bruce, When I told Steve to get his camera the sun wasn't quite visible. Just an awesome pink/orange glow. Actually I think the picture is better the way it is. The mountain peak in the back ground is Mt Hood.

Now that is the way to spend a day! It has been too long since I have been able to spend a day on the water.

Man, that thing must have fought like a devil. Fun times. THanks for posting that.

.. "Son, on this light tackle", as a good friend of mine used to say whilst we were fishing and caught a sweetheart like that one there!.

That photo is a beauty and the scenery is just spectacular!

Its good to get away.

Many Blessings,

Anthony

i live in the Purcell Mtns in B.C., but i think those old volcanoes ( Hood, Shasta, etc.) are the most "intense" (like almost spooky), amazing, mountains i've ever hiked on.

Yeah Ray, what a way to spend the day! That's some kind of fish, too. Somehow I can never imagine a "river" that freakin big; makes me realize how far inland Iowa is. Our fish as small too! But the sunrise is almost as beautiful as that.
