Sunscreen Wake Up Call

I'll bet your sunscreen has synthetic hormones and will grow you some nice breastises. Plus you will still get skin cancer. Sorry, but I was was shocked. Check the link and see how your favorite brand does.

It figures. Just when you think you're doing something good it turns out to be the opposite.

thanks for the link, I will make the woman read that one for sure!!!

Pfft! Next thing you know they'll say delicious radium shouldn't be ingested!
Better living through chemistry, I say!

G'day Beanbag

Good to see someone is onto the need for protection from the sun when outdoors for extended periods of time

Kind regards
Mick

One might wish to be a little less eager to believe everything one sees on the internet.

Link.

Link.

This is not to say that EWG is whack, but one cannot rule it out either.

I've had skin cancer. I avoid sun over exposure and use sunscreen when at the beach. Irrespective of what a dubious, unknown "environmental" group says on the internet. Seems like many of these groups have a different agenda than the one they purport to advocate, the discussion of which is best reserved for another forum. JMO.

Just something to consider.

Yeah come to Australia and try walking around in the sun with no sun screen and no ozone layer to protect you.

You'll be fried to a crisp in about half an hour.

And this from the Australian Cancer Council:

"Incidence and mortality

Melanoma represents 10% of all cancers, with more than 10,300 cases diagnosed annually. Around 1250 people die from melanoma each year."

I think I'll stick with SPF 30+ thanks as they recommend doing.

They are not saying "don't use sunscreen" are they? Rather, they are saying "avoid these ones that may do more harm than good".

I wasn't implying that anyone should not use sunscreen, and I don't think the EWG was either. I wish I used it more when I was younger, because at 47, it was quite a shock when My Dr. informed last month that I had skin cancer (the non- lethal kind). I put the link up here so everyone could educate themselves on what works best and what doesn't. I was surprised that some of the brands I had faith in were either not effective or contained nasty sh!t that I didn't want to expose my self to. Just like everything else on the web, take it with a grain of salt.

I rarely go anywhere that's not shaded with trees.Out in the pasture but rarely for more than an hour, usually early in the morning.
When I fish I wear long sleeved Bass Pro shirts, AFTCO pants. and a boonie hat.
I lived in Miami for 25 years so I got fairly well acclimated to strong sun. When I moved here it was still quite a change but not the same way it affects yankees from up north. They fry !
I've never used sunscreen. I'll probably regret that some day.

Oh wait, that already happened... I'm just waiting for the Vegan community to find out how tofu causes some crazy kind of cancer and all these hoity toity soy lovers around here wake the heck up...

Just to get a feel for EWG I read some of their info on tap water. They seem a bit looney-tunes in that arena, so read their "information" with caution.

Soy is all kinds of bad for your body, especially the heavily-processed kind. It does enough that it doesn't need to cause cancer too.
