Recommendation? Suontaka replica: Windlass, Darksword, or?

My niece is going away to college, and I want to get her a sword to show her how proud I am of her. I was thinking a Suontaka replica would be a good choice, and setting aside both the $150 garbage versions and the $5000 Castle Keep level stuff I’m really only finding the Windlass Steelcrafts version for $300ish or the Darksword Armory version for $750.

I’d like something functional enough to stand regular handling and occasional cutting. I’m concerned that the fittings on the Windlass are copper plate, I’d hate for them to wear out and look terrible after a few years. Of the two, is the Darksword worth the extra?

Are there any options I’m missing in the $500-1000 range? I know better plain Viking type swords are available in that range but I love the story of the Suontaka and I’m hoping to get one patterned on it.

Alternatively, any other medieval swords with ties to female warriors?

Museum Replicas/Atlanta Cutlery has a 20% sale going on until the 4th. FREEDOM20

It seems to me the Windlass stuff sells the swords as sharps now. The fittings will be fine. Don;t treat it as something that is not a sword.

You're "the cool uncle". No table from Ikea or comforter set from you, you give out swords. Excellent.
