I found this neat little hatchet at a flea market for $7. One side of the head says "Super Banko", and the other says "Made in Sweden". I figured thats gotta be good. :D

I stripped the paint off the head a hand sanded it a bit. The I put on a new handle and gave it a light stain and then some BLO. It is a 1.5 lbs head and an overall length of 14.5".

Nice grab, it's in awesome shape. Super Banko hatchets are fantastic, typical Swedish quality and functionality.

I'd put one in my collection, nice hatchet. i would have left it blue and just cleaned it but it is good.

Anyone know where I can find a replacement handle similar to that?
I got this one at Fleet Farm, its a deparment store here in the Midwest. They had quite a few on the shelf so I had plenty to choose from to find the best grain orientation.

Grew up in WI and I'm very familiar with the Man's Mall-though it's been probably five years since I've stepped in one unfortunately. Thanks for the heads up!

I have a banko 3 1/2 pound felling axe, my favourite single bit for softwood. I grabbed it for 10 bucks at a junk shop, original mint helve. Super axes, nice score Goose.

Best regards

Robin

Hickory handle store on eBay. I've bought a few hatchet handles similar to this.

The only ones that guy sells look very thick and fat compared to these sleek curved Swedish hafts. There are some nice ones in Great Britain but they're a bit expensive with shipping and all.

Nice find and great job on the clean up. Fleet farm is the place to go....If you dont have on around check at your local
hardware store. I have picked up a couple nice replacement handles at Ace hardware.
