I am toying with the idea of a Caly 3.5 Super Blue and I have no idea what Super Blue is like for general use. I know that it is not stainless, but is it close to D2? Any info is appreciated.

It's definitely nowhere close to D2. It begins to rust/patina fast in my experience. The closest steel I have to it in that regard is 1095.

Super blue is a dream to sharpen. It takes savage edges with good edge stability and surprisingly good wear resistance ( it's the tungsten carbides in it). It will rust but it's not like you can't keep it bright and shiny if you like. My user has scratches but no sigh of rust or oxidation. I keep mine clean and don't patina it. IMO it resists rust a bit better than Hitachi white steel, and most of the 10 series of carbon steels.

I've seen it ran in Japanese traditional chefs knives at rc 65-66 and it's sort of brittle at these numbers but not at all where Spyderco ran it ( about rc 62).

I absolutely love the knife and think it's one of Spyderco's top 5 knives of all time.

Thanks all.

And, I think that we are on the same page, Joe. Those are exactly the characteristics that I am looking for. Thanks again.
