I was just looking at the Delica, with the Super Blue steel, online. It appears as if it has a blended blade. As in the edge only is Super Blue. Are all of the SB Spyders like this? Im just not a fan of that. Any insight? Thanks guys.

Yes it's laminated construction with 420J2 on the exterior. This reduces rust and machining costs. The Caly 3 and 3.5 Suberblue models were both solid Superblue. They are out of production now. The upcoming Superblue Delica, Endura, Stretch, etc. are all laminated.

Yes it is laminated. There are two manufactures of Super Blue and ZDP-189 in Japan that Spyderco uses. One does solid ZDP and laminated Super Blue. The other does laminated ZDP and solid Super Blue. Can't remember the names (Moki sounds familiar) you may be able to find it somewhere. I was thinking Super Blue was mentioned to be laminated with ATS-34. I know ZDP is laminated with 420J. You might still be able to find the Caly 3 in SB in stock some places.

Didn't know that. I was going to pass on the super blue, but if it's laminated I may pick up an Endura.

Am I being dumb not liking laminated blades? I like the idea of the Super Blue, and would love to have a full one. Does it really matter??? Thanks for the opinions guys

There have been some good lam knives made. ZT comes to mind as well. Maybe I should give one of these a try. I just like the idea of the Super Blue, after having done a little research on it.

I will give big recognition to Spyderco though. We are lucky, that they are always doing some really cool stuff! makes things fun for sure.

I would prefer full super blue for aesthetics. An entirely black patina on the blade would look nice and 420 is a little scratch prone. OTOH, it should provide a little shielding from corrosion, so either way I'm in.

Ahh crap, who am I fooling?? I'm in too then. I can't be left out.

I would prefer a full blade also, but its nice not having to worry about the pivot area rusting from EDC use. Plus Spyderco does the best laminating in their class by far.

That's good news for me, i'd prefer the laminated one. Super blue is ugly to me when it gets patina, and it seems to get it pretty quick.

I don't think you're dumb at all. I am not a big fan of laminated blades either but I am excited to pick up a Delica SB because it is laminated. I had the Caly 3.5 in SB (no laminated layers). The fact that Super Blue patinas so incredibly easily was great (the colors are unique) but also led me to selling off the knife. I've moved down to Houston and the high heat and humidity made me paranoid the steel would rust. Eventually, I saw slight pitting and decided to stick with VG10.

I have been regretting selling my Super Blue Caly 3.5 as I loved the steel. It is incredibly easy to sharpen and takes a wicked sharp edge. When it was announced that the SB sprints for the Delica/Endura/Stretch were going to be laminated, I was happy. I really want to use Super Blue for EDC purposes and a laminated blade truly minimizes the threat of corrosion. I also think it will look cool to have a two tone finish on the knife after some use. The only downside to the laminated blades is that the steel chosen (420J2) is going to get scratched really easily. In the end, I plan on using the heck out of my SB Delica and am eager to see the "hardened" look it develops over time.

D1, I'm in Houston. Maybe the SB isn't for me, seeing the corrosion. Maybe a ZDP is in order.

Well, I want to give SB another shot. I think if I am diligent about keeping the blade clean and making sure it has a coat of Tuf Glide on it then there shouldn't be very bad corrosion.

ZDP also has corrosion issues - but nothing like Super Blue. If you decide to go with ZDP, I would still advise making sure to add some sort of lubricant (I recommend Tuf Glide) to the blade.

The Endura was supposed to come out last month and I still haven't gotten mine. I think the sprints are running a bit behind for whatever reason.
