Ok, ok! I've seen some mention of a Super Commander. I've some web searches, but still don't know the difference between the current Commander and the Super. I've seen "newest Commander specs." What are they? Why do they cost about a 'c' note more than what is out there now.

Anyone with the info?

Cheers,

Hi BillyJoeBob,

The Super commander is a larger version of the regular commander. The "newest commander specs" are switching from a plastic backspacer to a Larger G-10 back spacer that allows for a much stiffer knife. I believe that the blade grind is a little differrent also, along with traction grooves cut into the handle slabs and Ti liners. The original commander came out in 1998, and was offered in a hand rubbed satin finish as well as a black-t finish. These were built with thicker liners and handle scales. They are very sought after and often command high prices in the secondary market. It was based on a custom design by Emerson called the ES1-M, that was originally intended for military personell only. Mr. Emerson later decided to release a smaller version of that knife through his company. The Super commander is the full size version that is the same size as the original ES1-M. These are not regular production pieces. If you get a chance, get one, because they won't be around long. I've got a satin model heading my way. If you have yet to experience the wave, do so, no knife can be opened faster. Hope this helps,
BH
