got a super cqc8 brand new, from a solid dealer, but has a rattling stop pin, when closed. no effect on function as far as i can tell..haven't used it yet. what's your thoughts? send it in now or wait until it fails, if it ever fails....i doubt it will though, just annoying listening to it rattle back and forth......

I have not had that happen with any of my Emersons, but I did have the same issue with the XHP version of Cold Steel's AK-47... I tightened the pivot just a hair and it stopped the rattle. Maybe that will work--good luck man. It is annoying as hell.

good idea. thank you.

i've had a few tri-ad cold steels that had the same issue. never had this on an emerson, until now and i got over a half dozen emersons or so.

same thing happened to me a few years ago with my a-100. it eventually seemed to stop, but it was annoying. you can (i think) send it to eki. and they should fix the prob for free but...you cover the postage fees. this is info from at least seven years ago tho' so it may well be out of date. good luck

^this. It's a "floating" pin that can randomly rotate in place to avoid striking the same area on it that might otherwise create a flat spot, especially when waving it often.

Yeah i get that but it shouldnt rattle freely on slight movement......if it should then all my others are not right. I know they are all good. ...this one is just loose a bit and rattles a lot. Regardless its not a major issue and fhe knife seems perfect other than that. Im going to try the pivot toghtening and if no go, so be it. Ill use it and use warrnaty of it fails.mwhich i seriously doubt will ever happen.

Thanks all for the insight, appreciated.

My brother sent his mini cqc15 to Emerson. For sharpening and they actually replaced his stop pin, which didn't move, with one of the floating ones. Gooeytek is 100% right. You couldn't actually hear it rattle but when it's closed you can definitely feel it.

Put a little grease in the stop pin cavities. It's just enough to keep the pin from moving freely. I gave my CQC-8 a recent overhaul and noticed that even after rebuilding it for the third time, it still requires a break in period after each cleaning. It sounds tiring, because it's always said, but just use the knife and it will be fine.

Normal for em to move. Sounds like you got a short one tho. Jam a shim in there or call Emerson for a new one.

The old floating stop pin. My first Emerson, an 11 year old almost 12 now mini 7 has the floating stop pin. It moves when not under tension so every time you open the knife and it locks, the blade hits a different part of the pin. That distributes wear over time.
