I want a Khukuri, and will eventually order a few. But that Tarwar is calling me loudly, even louder than my motorcycle does. I have instead decided to invest in a REALLY nice Tarwar of collector's item quality. What options are available to me on a wooden-handled Chiruwa Tarwar and its Scabbard? I am in no hurry for it.

What options would you like? You can have a carved handle, brass, white brass, possibly even some silver mounted fittings, possibly even fullering.....Kothimoda style scabbard (silver mounted w/stones).....whatcha lookin' fer ?

After I started this thread, Hurricane Irene knocked me into the Stone Age. I just got power again last night. When I saw the sword in the thread below this one entitled "Danny's Tarwar", it looked a lot fancier than the one on the HI online store page, so I thought there must be a list of options somewhere. Thank you Steve for that link, that helped a lot. Since I really have no idea what I want, I think I'll keep lurking around here until I learn more about HI. I'm in no hurry. I've got the rest of my life to learn stuff.

Hi Glenn,

I've had similar thoughts as you before. The Tarwar generally carries a reputation for being a tough user blade that can pretty much handle anything, but it doesn't mean it couldn't be "dressed up" and treasured as an item worthy of keeping and passing onto family.

If I were you, I'd pick up the phone or write Auntie Yangdu and talk about the options with her. She will give you some great ideas. Personally, I would go for one that has a double dragon carved red chandan wood handle or a dhar wood handle, thick brass guard, engraved double dragon blade to match the handle, and either Kothimoda style scabbard or horn/bone scabbard. It would look very sweet. I would also have a thinner blade version made to reduce the weight a bit for your purpose.
