I just wanted to testify to how awesome this is if done properly. I tried it last night on a bowie handle and the whole time I was thinking it was going to turn out looking crappy, but in the end when I sanded it out, it looks great. Used Cyan3 from,I think, Texas Knifemakers, the real thin stuff, about 30-40 coats with one sand in the middle and then sand from 400 to 2000....like glass :D :D

Thats it.
The hard part is putting on that many coats with out sanding.
Chances are you will put scratches in not take them out.

would it be best to use the thin stuff to get into the wood, then use the get as a thicker top coat? how many coats should you do before you sand? will using the thin super glue to fill the wood, then sanding, then putting on the thicker gel, then sanding cause problems or visability problems?

I have heard that the gel doesn't do as good as the thin. I do about 15-20 coats and sand...or sand if my finger accidently touches it before it's dry. then 10-20 more coats and sand up to 2000 grit. It looks a little funky going on, but when you sand it, it looks great. You need to do so many coats because it is thin, but ask someone who has more experience about the gel. Also, I used cotton pads to apply it. BTW, use clean, unused sandpaper...ask me how I know. :D

Hi guys

Would any superglue use ? I see packs of cheapo superglue on sale for like 50 cents a tube, would that be acceptable ???

Cos using proper epoxy or whatever would get expensive. I've put some epoxy on the stabilized wood I've got and it works well, really darkens the lines and figures.

I am pretty sure the THIN store bought would work. It smells the same as what I got, my bottle is 2 ounces which is pretty huge compared to the stuff you get at lowes or wal mart, but I am pretty sure it is the same stuff, may have a slower cure or something but basically it will probably work if you let each coat dry, dont touch it(it will turn white) and use CLEAN sandpaper.

It looks even better if you polish it with some Mothers' Mag auto polish. I think any one of those white cream polishes would do.
