super glue on carbon scale

Don't ask me how but I got a small smudge of super glue on my carbon fiber scale and it's not enhancing the appearance of the knife at all. Any ideas on how to get it off without screwing up the scale?

Well, what ever you "try" I would test it on the side that doesn't show first. I would start with Hot water.
Depending on how much is there, it will wear off. SuperGlue's staying power is in a bonded situation not out in the open.
Be careful if trying nail polish remover OR acetone - they are definately "test" items first.
GooGone is a citus remover and probably less aggressive.
I'm sure you will hear from others, possibly someone who has had a similar situation.

Rubi said about exactly what I was about to post.

Is the scale smooth or textured?

Can also try lemon juice, etc.

Maybe Web search for superglue removal ideas and see what sounds acceptable.

Hope it all works out for you.

I looked at the back of the package that the super glue came in I have (the gel kind - Loctite brand) and it suggests cooking oil to help separate your fingers if you manage to glue them together. Maybe give it a try on the handle scale? Also, I can say that acetone is a bad idea and will ruin carbon fiber. I saw some of this stuff get spilled on a carbon fiber hood once and you could see dull faded/worn looking areas everywhere it got on it.

Actually you may already have discoloration under the glue regardless of what you use to remove it. The glue its self contains a solvent which quickly flashes off at room temperature allowing the polymer to harden. Ketones such as acetone work best at removing the glue. A less aggressive choice is methyl isobutyl ketone... The acetone will discolor by means of defating the surface. The same thing that happens with your hand if you pour fingernail polish remover on your hand...it removes the oil from your skin. If you get the glue off and have discoloration you can easily buff it back out and apply some wax or silicone to it and rub it back to luster.
Hope this helps...

If the spot is on the flat of the face, I would take a very sharp chisel laid flat on the scale and slice it off. Then I would sand the scale with wet/dry 400 grit sandpaper.

Since its a smooth CF scale if just use sandpaper. Place a large sheet of SP on a mirror & tape it down. Start with 400-600 grit silicon carbide & with even pressure use a circular motion till the SG is gone. Then to remove the scratches go up the grits till you get to 2500 grit for a glassy finish.

I've had some bad situations with super glue. I haven't touched a bottle in months. Once two parts of your body become permanently attached you become much more cautious. *sigh*

Votes on the abrasives since its smooth, but if u choose too, remeber to cover your mouth, carbons some light weight sh$#
And if u inhale it, well... Just don't inhale it...

Thanks for all the responses. Ended up using sandpaper, as Modifiedz suggested, and it worked well. Scale looks good as new. Handling super glue is kind of like cutting up jalapenos. It's easy to get it in places where you don't want it.
