Hello all, I need some help. After watching all the videos about how strong the lock back was on Cold Steel knives are I purchased a #27TMCC Mini Recon 1 to add to my EDC rotation. I knew going in that the lock could be “somewhat strong” to try and depress but the knife I received is rickdiculous hard to open. I don’t have weak hands but I have to bang the damn thing on a table edge to open it. I tried to adjust the pivot screw but that just adds blade play. Is there anything I can do to “loosen “ it up?

I'd recommend leaving it half way open for a few days. That always seems to work well for me.

if this is your first triad lock knife, it's probably just a finger shock. your thumb will gain strength once you used it enough. sometimes you will think the knife is broken in but it's in fact ur thumb getting stronger

Like as has been said, leave the knife somewhere safe (so no one gets cut), open about half way so the lock bar is fully raised. Leave it that way for a week or so. If that does not fix it send it back. That will normally fix it, though. My Mini was hard to open and close but after that it is the smoothest knife I own.

OK, I will leave it open for a week. btw it came from the factory super sharp. I really want to carry it , IF I can open it... Thanks

Mine wasn't easy to open but after a few times I would say it wasn't THAT difficult. Harder for me was closing it one handed, but after a few hundred opens and closes it's easier because I have a nice callous on my thumb. Haven't tried leaving it half open for any length of time though, excited to see if that works!

Tri-Ads are stiff at first, judging by my American Lawman (Recon1 is on the way), but it eased up after a few hundred openings. Lube helps.

If you don't want to wait for a week, you can open your knife and bend the spring inward a little. Loosen the tension a little at a time until you like it. Shouldn't take more than 20 mins.

Well I got the guts to open the knife and bend the spring as suggested by mbastien55 and now the action is PERFECT. It did not take much , putting back together took a little patience but now I have a great EDC, Thanks all

After a few times you open cs triad locks you get good at it and get your own tricks ;). I'm happy to know you like the knife :)
