Super heat treatment on recent Microtech S35-VN?

I just received a August produced Microtech Ultratech the other day, and unlike what is typical from Microtech the edge was disappointing. It looked like a 50-60 degree inclusive angle and just wasn't that sharp, so I broke out my Spyderco Sharpmaker to re-profile it to a 40 degree angle.
I have re-profiled 2 knives with this system; a Kershaw with 14c28n, and a Leatherman with S30V.
The 14c28n took about 200 total strokes, and the S30V was around 300-400.
Even if the Letherman isn't CPM steel, it should be close to S35-VN right? Not the case!
Looking at the Ultratech's edge under a 30x jewelrs loupe it looks like I am about 2/3 done, and I have gone through about 3000(yes, thousand) strokes with the corse rods!:

Does anyone know if the heat treat from Microtech is unusually high recently? Maybe they accidentally made the blade with something like CTS-204p?
I just need some help understanding what is going on here!

I've noticed most S35VN seems to have a exceptional heat treatment and almost demands diamond hones. The spyderco ceramics are more of a polishing stone for finishing a edge after grinding, not surprised to hear its been thousands of strokes.

I don't think you need diamond you just need a coarser stone... which for the sharpmaker is the diamond rods.

I recently put an edge to one of my custom 1095 from a purposeful blunt edge (show piece) using the Sharpmaker. Took nearly 500 strokes on the medium rod. Mind you that's 1095 NOT S35V.
Took S90V just fine as well for a buddy of mine.
