I must say i was very excited when i first heard about the Super Knife

http://www.superknifestore.com/

I thought it was a great idea, long overdue. I did think the price seemed a little steep, but what the hell, if it worked it would be great. Well I got one and my overall impression is quite favorable with a few caveats. The initial blade tension was very tight so I used the included tool to loosen the actio just enough for me to be able to open it. A day or two later I avoided serious injury only because I was wearing a pair of older jeans that were rather tight. Super Knife was clipped to my right front pocket and when I reached in for my SAK, I felt something extra---it was the pivot screw from the knife! It had worked itself out completely but luckily the blade mechanism remained in the handle. If I had been wearing baggier pants like BDUs I could have easily gotten a hand full of razor blade. Not cool. The knife stayed on the shelf until I got some Locktite. Even then, I adjusted the tension tighter than I like since it is a liner lock and now I am paranoid about it opening accidentally in my pocket. One other thing, I was in a resturant with my gf one night and after returning with another round of beers I found the SK on the seat of booth where I was sitting. I've carried many different knives in my right rear pocket and never had one come out before. I don't know whether it is poor clip design, the design of the booth, grabbing at just the right place or just a freak occurance. At that point I decided that although I really like the way the knife performed and its basic concept, the only way I was going to continue carrying it would be in a belt sheath. Unfortunately, I just threw it on the front seat of my truck (with lots of other junk--mostly maps and Map Quest directions) until I got home. I forgot about it for a few days and now I can't find it. I think it must have fallen out when I was getting in or out. I decided to try the Mini SK. Cute but way to small to be really useful for anything other than clipping coupons. Last night i was in Lowes. They sell a similar knife from "Sheffield". I had seen it before but i was sceptical since most of their other stuff is Leatherman knockoffs and cheap little folders. But what the hey, it was only $9.(7 as opposed to $24.95 so I decided to give it a shot---the blade is what's important and you can put whatever utility blade you want in the handle. I have to say, this thing is great! Very solid handle and it is a lockback, not a liner lock. Also the blade changing mechanism is much simpler and does not require a seperate tool. The one downside is the clip. Not a good design adn not very sturdy. I'll probably remove and try pocket carry although I think it will be too bulky for non clip pocket carry. I'll probably end up going with a belt sheath. Anyway, at least initially, I think it is a superior design to the SK and it is only 40% of the price.

I have not seen the Sheffield but I shall give it some research.

To be fair, I did find my Super Knife half-way out of my pocket once, but I think this is more a fault of common 'slippery clips' than for the Super Knife design. I check my pocket often for any EDC, and that's how I found the SK trying to fall out.

My SK pivot came adjusted just like I like it; that is tight enough for minor 'drag' but loose enough to easily open.

My wife and I are cutting everything (most shipping boxes) with our SK and we have not yet had to replace the present blade (see next paragraph). I stropped it a few times with white rouge, my standard nightly ritual for any EDC.

BTW, I threw away the blade that came with the knife. Mine was rusty and not really that sharp. I chalked it off to shipping. My only complaint is that with Stanley blades (they are thinner) the set screw sits too far into the knife. It then drags on the clear plastic sheath. I like that sheath if we are working on several boxes and need the knife to be out and handy.

That looks like a cool little knife. For a utility knife, I'll stick with my Olfa, though.

Cheap (~$5), simple, effective design at its finest.
