Is it possible to just switch blades from one sebbie 21 to another? Suppose u had a plain handle w damascus and a micarta inlay w plain...could u swap blades and put micarta blade w w.e. handle ud like? Or have CRK do it for you?? Thanks!!

Also is it possible to have a plain scale sebenza 21 and send it in and have inlays added for a fee? Would those fine folks do that for you? Ever heard of that? Thanks a bunch!!

It's possible, but not recommended. I'm pretty sure CRK won't do that for you either, you'd have to have a blade freshly fitted, so you'd have to buy another.

Their tolerances are very tight, like within .0005" so technically, it is possible, but their knives are hand assembled and hand modified to fit specifically the handle its given. All the lock faces on the blades are custom ground to fit each specific handle. Since the tolerances are so tight, you MAY find a match, but it's not recommended or covered under any warranty should something happen. That amount of tolerance could be the difference between a 70% lockup and a 100%.

I found a good deal on a used ladder damascus sebbie w plain tit. Scales...but my only other seb is also a plain handle and iv really had my eye on micarta inlay, but iv never owned a damascus knife and iv wanted one for about 15 yrs. ....or...could u send a sebbie to crk to have it upgraded to a damascus blade?:or is it so specific that ud have to have them build a whole new sebbie just to have them change blades?? Thanks!!

Blade swap is not recommended. Even though the tolerances are the tightest in the industry, a small margin of .005 on the lock-face to blade tang is the difference between a 50% lockup and 80-90% Lockup. The odds of finding that perfect match are super rare.

CRK will not add inlays to an existing knife.

They will do engraving to an existing knife, but the finishes are blasted over or a reverse silver contrast. They cannot add color ( like the colorful uniques and cgg you see out there ) to an existing knife as well.

I have never had a micarta inlay, I always wanted one, but just never got around to getting one. I have had Damascus though and its sweet. MANY dealers have micarta scales with ladder damascus blade 21 sebenzas in both large and small, you could go that route as well. I see them all the time.

Crk will build you a replacement damascus blade if you want to go that route you will have to call or email them and get on the list.

Not sure what the lead time is now, when its done youll have to send your knife in and they will fit it.

They are closed fri-sun so you might want to call tomorrow.

Does anyone know the price of a damascus blade for an existing sebenza handle?

Do not quote me on this, but I believe its close to $300 for a blade added to an existing sebenza. Its actually cheaper to buy a new one with a damascus blade in it.

Quick questions quick answers!!

Yes its possible, and no you shouldnt..... For all the above reasons!!

I have read quite a few posts (here on BF) where Sebenza blades have been successfully swapped back and forth. I have no reason to doubt that.

Lol, That's opening up a whole can of worms and trolling.....Best it not go any further.

So CRK will put a different blade into your existing handles?
So I could have them put an Insingo Blade on my CF/Ti handles?
Hmmm... if it's like $130 - $150 I may need to do that. =]

They will not add anything that was not stock by them. Meaning since they do not offer a carbon fiber insingo, they will not add a insingo blade......... I emailed Heather and asked if they would do a carbon fiber insingo and she said No since it's a knife they do not offer. Was also denied a damascus insingo as well. Though that may be a possibility someday.

I just got a nice email reply from them asking a few questions. New plain blades are $135. New Damascus, raindrop or ladder, is $295. They will do a reverse silver contrast engraving on plain handles. For a unique graphic you would have to pay $200 for a brand new scale with the graphic on it.

I do know that blade swapping works at times. I've tried it when I had a few in my possession. One blade fit perfectly with a great 50% lockup while another combo I tried resulted in the lock bar reaching all the way to the other scale. It is very hit or miss.

I have thought about getting a new CRK blade and sending it out for heat treat. I think the S35VN would be more interesting like that. Just gotta get around to spending the money and sending the knife in.
