Super Salyan

Hello Mott, I have a SS it is GREAT and VERY heavy! I was once going to use it for everything and get a kydex sheath for it but it started to wear on me and I realized it was indeed a little to big to be my main knife. I do love it and if you get the chance to get one DO IT!!!
I've heard that there is a few Mega Salyans around these parts also!! I can't imagine!!!:D

Some stats:

Karda: 6 1/4" long OAL, blade 3", thickness, 1/8th
Chakma: 6" OAL, other dimension same

Super Salyan:

Length: 20" OAL
Blade Length: 12 1/2"
Blade Width at sweet spot: 3"
Blade Width at bolster: 1 & 15/16"
Spine thickness at bolster: 3/4"
Spine thickness at elbow: 11/16"
Handle Length: 7 1/2" ( front of bolster to point of keeper on cap )
Handle length: ( of wood only ) 6"
Circumference of bolster: 5 1/8"
Circumference behind bolster 5 1/2"
Circumference directly behind ring: 4 5/8"
Height of buttcap: 3 1/4"
Width of buttcap: 1 1/2"

Weight - not measured.

Hope the above helps.

If that is a 12" Sirupati, I think it may be Audrey. She's got a relatively small bend at the elbow that you seldom see, and makes her very different in the way she moves. Most other 12"ers have a more acute bend that limits what you can do with them more.

Well since Rusty posted the spec's I thought I would post the weight of mine.

The whole rig weighs 4 Lbs 8 1/2 ounces.
The Super Salyan by itself weighs 3 Lbs 8 1/2 ounces.:)
Much to heavy to carry around on your hip for very long at a time, for me anyway. :D

Now it will go back to where it's always ready at a moments notice to go to work.:)

Actually, I think that's a 15 inch Sirupati, Rusty, but can't remember for sure. You know the story.

Mott,

My Mega Salyan is 5.65 LB so driving to where its going to be used is very desirable. Think of the Mega Salyan as a razor sharp sledge hammer. I used it to bust up skids a couple of times. It would blast through hardwood 2x2 with a single blow. Considering the skids were only held up by hand I felt this was quite impressive.

While I love mine it is definitely not for everyone. In all honesty I use my 17.5" WWII, GRS, and 22" Ang Khola a lot more than the Mega Salyan.

I have chopped some stuff with my SS, but mostly just so I could say that I did it. I am 6' tall, but rather lightly built, and I have found that something like a Gelbu Special or a 15" AK is a more practical chopper/user. If I had to carry a SS, I think I would use a baldric. It's too heavy for practical belt wear.

I named mine "Ganesh" the remover of obstacles. In the right hands, it could destroy a Buick!
