How many of these monsters were made? Which Kami made them?
Was there more than one run of them or just the first one?

Thank you for the wisdom of the elder members who may answer me on this one, or for a newer one who knows for that matter.;)

Here's a response from a newer member warty. As best I can divine from the Archives, Bill ordered six 18" Salyans and after they arrived he decided not to order this size any more. It appears that the Super Salyans were made by Shop 1, so no attribution to kamis. There were a few problems in getting this done. First, it appears that no one at the shop made the Salyan style so they used a picture as a beginning for the design and expanded everything from that starting point. They did get the blade width close though; Bill wanted 3" and he got 2 15/16". They couldn't find horn large enough to handle them and waited for Bill's blessing to use wood. When they arrived Bill posted the specs: about 20" in length, 2 15/16" wide, spine about 5/8" and weight about 3.5 pounds. IIRC Will Kwan posted occasionally about his Super Salyan that he said weighed 5.65 pounds. This info is from way back in the Archives. If another run was made I haven't read about it yet.

I have Rusty's Super Salyan. Will Kwan had one and I can think of 2 other veteran Cantinistas that were once owners of them.

The rest?

Probably doing night jobs as Boat Anchors.

Well then I must have one of the original "Shop One" Supers. Mine is 20", 2 15/16" wide, 5/8" Spine and weighs at least 3.5 pounds.
It is the most impressive Khukuri I have ever seen, handled or owned. It is also definitely pre Uncle Bill's Passing because there is no "U.B." on it nor is there a Kami mark but there is the "H.I." in Devanagari on the blade. I must say, this is a real CHOPPING MACHINE! Good thing I have big hands, I really love this beast! I will post a few pix of it and my regular Salyan next to each other tomorrow.

From one of the links, mine apparently has a name too, Ganesh, the Destroyer of Obstacles. :D

Good catch warty. I'm sure that it is impressive indeed and I'm glad that you have another khukuri that you like. Just curious, is it speaking to you?

I remember the Super Salyan coming up in an earlier thread you were posting on and, IIRC, you knew of the the whereabouts of an obtainable one. It looks like things worked out for you so congratulations are in order. A fine working khukuri and a rarity in the HI Universe. (I was tempted to mention this style to precisionshootist 'cause he seemed to be drawn to the big and beefy but held back since his post was directed to the CAK.)

You said its a "CHOPPING MACHINE". Have you already put this through some paces? Well, whether you have or not, please let me know your impressions once you do-email me if necessary. If it is a workable khuk then I may consider one myself should my arm get to feeling better.

Ganesh was is my custody for a few years. I'm sure warty will take good care of him. Before me, he was the ward of a former member called gonesailing.
I would recommend a baldric rig if you are seriously going to carry one.
Or maybe a horse cart....or a deuce and a half.....

warty if I had known you were were dealing with Mike L. I could have told you that it was the last of the Super Salyans from Bill's first shipment. Glad to see that you got a real piece of HI history. Its good to see that Mike L.'s listing finally sold so I won't have to keep checking on it anymore. Congratulations to both of you.
