I know I've seen it but I tried to do a search and got a sorry. When did Schrade start using this on the blade. Thanks, Toby

Toby, I believe blades with that marking are made in Red China and are not true Schrades.

I was really hoping that someone who has studied this "Super Sharp" trademark etch more than I have would pop in here. It is indeed an authentic Schrade trademark, but one of the many now owned by TBLLC. I recall seeing it on knives beginning a bit after 1973, though it could be earlier. The 171UH and 153UH are two fixed blades that bore the etch. I think it was an on-again, off-again usage. I have a 160OT with and one without. All of the Mountain Lions were made in 1990-95. The first run of 171UH was in 1971-83. Here is one of my 160OTs:

Now... would someone give us a bit more enlightenment?
Here is an older original 171UH: 6604759571
And a USA 153UH:6606009652

beekay,
Don't feel bad.....it is a learning process. I am still learning, too! I don't think anyone person knows it all. LT probably has forgotten more than most of us know and even he will say he doesn't it all!

Hang in there buddy.;)

No sweat.I thought the same as you until I noticed some older knives with it.The great thing about this forum is the wealth of information freely shared.Jump in anytime.Toby

That is partially true. Taylor latched onto that etch as one of the first trademarks he paid the renewal fee on, and it has appeared on a lot of the knife patterns he has imported from the new Chinese manufacturer of Schrade copies. Some of the patterns it is found on had it on the originals, and some never had it.

...... Sorry I gave you bad info
Post away beekay. Your information was not bad, just incomplete. As is most of the history of Schrade and the knives. We daily ferret out new facts. I doubt that even Paul Harvey will be around long enough to give us.....the rest....of the story.

It is up to us here to ask the questions and try to find the answers. I think I hold the forum record for being wrong (not counting El Lobo's fixation on folding knives), but I/we learn something from each answer sought. Your answer just prompted a clarification of a question a lot of us wonder about, but were afraid to ask. Maybe it will even cause someone to do deeper research on the subject of Schrade trademark etches.
