I gave my Mutt strict instructions that there was to be no going in the water, just BigFoot duty today...

We kept seeing some Turkey Vultures and that's what she is looking at in this pic...

I turned my back to take this pic of a Tiger Lily...

As soon as I'd turned my back my Mutt headed straight for the sea...

I gave up on her and went to see what I could find...

No mishaps today anyways so all is well !!!!

If you like that slug, you should make a visit to the Santa Cruz mountains here in California, home to the banana slug. They about the same size as that but bright yellow. Great for making bigfoot banana slug splits. Yummm.

Nice pics, I especially like the crab.

Cool! The slug in your first pic might be a banana slug too!? I did a little research cause this second pic you posted and said it is a banana slug wasn't yellow, but it turns out that not all banana slugs are yellow. And the banana slug is the second largest slug in the world, the only one bigger is in europe. Anyways, the reason I didn't realize it was a banana slug was because our banana slugs look like this: (sorry but my camera and it's operator aren't quite as good as yours:))

ETA: man that brown and black one is cool looking! But I still like our yellow ones.

Too bad you can' eat them-- that's a lot of protein that is easy to chase down.

Those of you not used to hiking in slug country don't know the pleasure of landing your heel on one and going for a three foot slide on one heel, all the while trying to balance your pack and stay upright. Murphy's Law states that the probability of stepping on a slug is proportionate to the slipperyness of the underlying surface-- a slug on a log is one of the slipperier things in nature. Rumor has it the Egyptians imported slugs to move blocks for the pyramids.

And you haven't lived until you've seen slugs mating.

Ok pitdog......you are gonna think im crazy, but i was on an outward bound trip in B.C, we came across those banana slugs, and the instuctior said if you licked them yur tounge would go numb.......

Sure enough we all did it, and all of our tounges were numb
Sadly i can not find the pictures, but it wouldnt matter anyway cause i cant post pictures ( i dont know how)

But trust me, it works

I've eaten alot of weird things, but I wouldn;t eat that slug.....unless somebody told me they were edible. Bear would eat it...raw. How do you get those things? Bow and arrow? 22LR?

Hey Guys..

Pit..

Ohh Yaa Baby..Those are Eaters!!!!

Get a deep tray,, cover the bottom with corn meal,,spritz it with water and drop a couple of dozen of those bad boys in there for a few days...

Coat the top rim of the tray with thick wide bead of Vasoline so they can't slither out,,and let them feed on the corn meal for a few days.. The corn meal will clean their guts from sand....

Once they are $hitting corn meal thay are Good to go..

Karen Hood calls it Breading from the Inside...

Pop'm into boiling water to get the slime off and they are good to go!!
