"IMPORTANT: After breaking in a little bit & getting that groove going, apply some graphite & the WT knife will be SUPER SMOOTH!"

(WT refers to the Warren Thomas knives he is handling in the video.)

I have been watching this guy on YouTube for some time now and he is full of useful information concerning knives. In some of his videos he says that if you have a framelock or linerlock it's good to put graphite on your tang to lessen the amount of wear on your lock. He mentions that a handy way of doing this is by using a 2B graphite pencil. - do any of you guys practice or agree with any of this? I can't find the exact video where he talks about the graphite trick but this one like others has it written down in the description box.

My daily use knives are mostly S30Vs with Ti liners so I'm wondering if I'd benefit from applying some pencil to my tang haha.. or is this all nonsense?

Personally I don't like to lube a locking surface.

You can use graphite oil as well, but purely using graphite is an old trick when oils are unwanted, for instance in a dusty environment. I used to work construction and we always lubed up all kinds of power tools and stuff with graphite dust, which we got at the hardware store.

Thanks for the responses chaps, much appreciated and I shall experiment with this further.

take care about neptuneknives videos, he says a lot of usefull things but also a lot of bullshit, a lot of nonsense and a lot of false opinion without much facts or sense to back them up

just my opinion.

Be careful not to get graphite powder on any scale you don't want to have a silver sheen. Graphite powder will find its way into every nook, cranny, pore and seam. It's almost impossible to get a surface clean once you get graphite on it.
